BUDGETED SALARY: $45,00.00-$60,000.00/ANNUALLY
Essential Duties:

- Performs preliminary basic design work in the preparation of plans and specifications for public works projects.
- May assist in training and/or leadership of drafting technicians; works closely with civil engineers.
- Performs routine drafting and entry-level design work in preparing plans and specifications for public works projects.
- Performs as-built reviews and comments on developer and capital projects. Makes field inspections to ensure information is accurate and meets county standards.
- Assists in the data collection and computation of water and sewer assets for the division's GIS datasets using GPS, digitizing, and other technologies.
- Drafts existing topography and utility locations; map composition using CAD or GIS methods
- May be responsible for maintaining central engineering records, such as capital projects, development files, construction plans, and as-built plans.
- Interprets, plots, and processes data from field survey parties; assists engineers with survey requirements; plots property outlines from drawings and deed descriptions
- Prepares moderately complex exhibits and reports using ArcGIS, CAD, and database software.
- Address inquiries from engineers, contractors, and citizens on the availability of public water and sewer facilities.
- Performs online and courthouse research for deeds and plats.
- May assist in training new employees and field personnel in the use of tools, work techniques, and skills required to accomplish work assignments, and/or leadership of drafting technicians. Works closely with civil engineers on complex public works projects or consultant contracts.
Years of Experience:
Three (3) years' of experience in paraprofessional civil engineering or GIS work related to engineering design or drafting.

Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Certifications, Licensures, and Examinations:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of drafting materials, principles, and techniques
- Knowledge of mathematics
- Ability to do drafting, design work, and solve computational problems
- Ability to read, understand, and prepare engineering drawings
- Knowledge of GIS or CAD systems
- Knowledge and ability to use computers for word processing, spreadsheets, and database management
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access)
- Ability to prepare moderately complex reports including text, figures, and tables
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with professionals, para-professionals, engineers, developers, contractors, and the general public
- Ability to perform field investigations, data collection, or inspection work for compliance while standing for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, or sit depending upon work assignment
- Skill in oral and written communication
