ABS Government Engineering Services (GES) is searching for an Engineer II to assist with ship machinery drawing reviews. This person will perform engineering design review and analysis assignments normally involving a major project or several smaller less complex projects. These projects by nature of their complexity and difficulty require the fully competent application of conventional knowledge in a particular field of engineering. Through broader and more technically challenging work assignments, the ideal candidate will develop a thorough understanding of policies, methods and procedures.

Individual will support U.S. government agencies (US Navy, US Military Sealift Command (MSC), US Coast Guard, MARAD, NOAA, etc.) by performing various classification and certification services for surface vessels.

An individual will need to be a U.S. Citizen. Must have or be able to attain a security clearance.

What You Will Do:
  • Under the supervision of an experienced engineer or engineering manager, performs detailed engineering review of machinery plans as assigned for compliance with applicable Rules, Regulations, and contract commitments.
  • Prepare calculations by hand or using computer-aided engineering tools for various vessel machinery.
  • Prepare technical reports and work with other engineers to find resolutions to problems.
  • Maintain the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity, and timeliness of action of all assigned projects to ABS standards.
  • Implements and maintains ABS Quality System requirements relative to responsibilities after undergoing ABS Quality System training.
  • Communicates the status of the current workload to all appropriate members of the team to ensure the needs of the clients will be met.
  • Works as a team member within the group but may work most of the time autonomously.
What You Will Need:

Education and Experience
  • B.S. degree in Marine, Mechanical Engineering, or other related disciplines.
  • 2 years of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or a classification society.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of related technical disciplines required.
  • The ability to identify, analyze, and propose solutions to problems (i.e., the competence to demonstrate complex problem-solving skills).
  • Good command of the English language.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.
It Would Be Nice If You Had

Professional or chartered engineer license.

Reporting Relationships:

The incumbent reports to a senior-level engineer or technical manager. This position does not have any direct reports.
