Job Title: Associate Engineer – Streetlighting (Entry-Level)
Location: Belleville, MI (Hybrid – onsite and remote flexibility)
Pay Rate: $36.05/hour

About the Role
Our client is seeking an entry-level Associate Engineer to support streetlighting design, material standards, and engineering initiatives. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside a highly experienced engineer while developing hands-on expertise in outdoor lighting systems, photometric design, and utility-grade construction standards.
This role is ideal for someone early in their engineering career who is eager to learn, grow, and build specialized knowledge in lighting technology and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and Maintain Material Standards
Establish and support construction material standards for streetlighting equipment to ensure durability, safety, and long-term performance
Evaluate and approve alternative suppliers and products to maintain cost efficiency and supply chain reliability

Perform Photometric Design
Create in-house photometric layouts and lighting designs to support projects and reduce reliance on external consultants
Ensure designs meet industry standards while optimizing safety, efficiency, and overall lighting performance

Cost Control and Project Support
Assist in monitoring material pricing and supporting cost control initiatives for streetlighting projects
Support CIAC (Contribution in Aid of Construction) estimates and track variances between projected and actual costs
Participate in competitive bidding processes to improve cost efficiency

Vendor and Supply Chain Collaboration
Work closely with supply chain teams and vendors to resolve material issues and prevent project delays
Support quality improvement initiatives and help strengthen supplier relationships

Innovation and Continuous Improvement
Assist in evaluating and implementing new lighting products, technologies, and construction standards
Provide technical support to operations teams and contribute to long-term asset management strategies
Develop expertise in lighting systems with mentorship and structured training

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or related field preferred)
Strong interest in lighting design, infrastructure, or utility engineering
Basic understanding of engineering design principles (lighting or photometric experience is a plus but not required)
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities
