The Opportunity:

 

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Washington State University (WSU) is seeking an established scientist and leader to build on the college's rich legacy of the human animal bond established by Dr. Leo Bustad and to lead an interdisciplinary initiative that will link human and animal health. The successful applicant will fill an endowed chair position and will lead an initiative to develop a partnership for interprofessional education, research and service between WSU and the University of Washington's Center for One Health Research. This newly created initiative entitled The Human-Animal Wellness Center (HAWC) is in its early stages of development. Preference will be given to candidates with an internationally recognized research program and innovative educational approaches in the areas of human-animal interaction or animal cognition/behavior with a knowledge and commitment to interprofessional education, the link between human and animal health and wellness and a strong commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration. This is a full-time (12-month) permanent tenure-track endowed chair position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, depending on qualifications, located at our Pullman, Washington campus.

 

The Responsibilities:

The effort distribution is flexible with approximately 65% effort dedicated to leadership/administration/service and 35% dedicated to instruction and research. The successful candidate will be expected to lead efforts to develop HAWC to produce a new generation of veterinarians, human health and mental health practitioners, and researchers who can collaborate effectively and develop curricula and joint training for veterinary and human health care students; to promote and conduct research, teaching and outreach in health issues related to human animal interaction, psychological, emotional, physical benefits and mutual benefits for humans and animals and the efficacy of shared health care delivery and other therapeutic or recreational interventions; and to build on the success of the Seattle One Health Clinic (a joint WSU-UW project).

Veterinary Clinical Sciences is housed within the College of Veterinary Medicine which is organized into five departments/schools including Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience, Veterinary Microbiology and Pathology, the School of Molecular Biosciences, and the Paul G. Allen School for Global Health, each dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and service (http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu).

Veterinary Clinical Sciences educates tomorrow's veterinarians through innovative education programs and learning opportunities for professional veterinary medical students and graduate veterinarians. Additional Information:

 

This is a full time (100% FTE) permanent position. This position is overtime exempt.

 

Annual Salary:

 

$145,000 - $180,000 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

 

In accordance with https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=49.58.110, the salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

An earned doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in psychology, behavior, neurology, or a related field is required. Must have an established extramurally funded research program with a record of peer-reviewed publications and national/international reputation commensurate with rank of associate or professor. WSU seeks candidates whose research, teaching, or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education. For the Full Professor level, candidates must have a demonstrated record of leadership in research, teaching or service to their university or field. All candidates must have a history of contributing to high quality undergraduate, graduate or professional education and excellent communication skills.
