EMI/EMC Engineer/Analyst – Space Exploration Avionics Systems
MRI Technologies
Houston, TX
MRI Technologies has an exciting opportunity for an EMI/EMC Engineer/Analyst on the JETS II contract at NASA Johnson Space Center. In this role, you will support the planning, execution, and analysis of EMI/EMC tests on spaceflight avionics hardware, working alongside experienced EMI/EMC engineers to ensure compliance with NASA and military standards for human-rated deep space exploration systems. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team of avionics, power, RF, and mechanical engineers supporting NASA's most ambitious exploration missions.
A typical day might include assisting with EMI chamber test setups using spectrum analyzers and signal generators, reviewing preliminary test data against MIL-STD-461 requirements, and contributing to test plans and procedures documentation. You may spend time learning from senior engineers as you observe design reviews, gain exposure to shielding and grounding strategies, and develop your understanding of how electromagnetic compatibility is achieved in complex spaceflight systems. This is a growth-oriented role where your curiosity, analytical skills, and passion for space exploration will be put to work on real NASA missions.
What We Are Looking For
Requirements:
- BS degree or higher in Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field from an accredited institution with 2–10 years of experience
- Strong analytical background with solid understanding of electronic systems, electromagnetic principles, or system integration
- Hands-on experience or familiarity with lab test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, RF amplifiers, multimeters)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work within cross-functional engineering teams
- A growth mindset and genuine interest in learning EMI/EMC principles and test methods
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote, Outlook)
Preferences:
- Exposure to or coursework in RF systems, shielding/filtering, grounding, or signal integrity
- Understanding of key EMI/EMC concepts such as radiated/conducted emissions, susceptibility, electrostatic discharge (ESD), and crosstalk
- Experience reviewing schematics or PCB layouts from academic or professional projects
- Familiarity with tools such as SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, or EMI simulation tools
- Knowledge of MIL-STD-461 or other EMI/EMC test and design standards
- Interest in working in spaceflight environments (avionics, spacecraft systems)
- Exposure to systems integration or multi-disciplinary engineering teams
