Reports To: Information Security Manager

Location: Onsite 3-4 days per week at HQ office 225 W Randolph St 19th Floor, Chicago, IL 60606

Compensation: $95 - $115K depending on experience

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Email Security Engineer to join our growing Information Security team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of advanced email security solutions to protect the organization from phishing, malware, data loss, and other email-based threats.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, configure, and maintain enterprise email security platforms (e.g., Microsoft Defender for Office 365, Proofpoint, Mimecast, Cisco Secure Email, etc.)
• Monitor and respond to email-based threats including phishing, spoofing, and business email compromise (BEC)
• Implement and maintain email authentication standards such as SPF, DKIM, and DMARC
• Analyze email logs and alerts to identify and mitigate risks or breaches
• Collaborate with incident response teams to investigate and remediate email-related security incidents
• Conduct periodic assessments of the email environment and recommend security improvements
• Work with IT and compliance teams to ensure email policies meet regulatory and industry requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, ISO 27001)
• Develop and deliver user training and awareness programs focused on email security
• Automate repetitive tasks and build detection rules using scripting (Python, PowerShell, etc.) where appropriate

Qualifications:

• Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity with a focus on email security
  • Deep understanding of email protocols (SMTP, IMAP, POP3) and mail flow architecture
  • Experience with enterprise email security platforms such as Proofpoint, Mimecast, Microsoft Defender, etc.
  • Strong grasp of email authentication methods: SPF, DKIM, DMARC
  • Experience with phishing simulation platforms and user awareness tools
  • Familiarity with SIEM tools and log analysis
  • Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell, Python, or Bash)

• Preferred
  • Knowledge of secure email gateways and encryption technologies
  • Experience with sandboxing and threat emulation tools
