Job Summary:

The EHS Audit Specialist plays a key support role within Reliance Inc.’s Corporate EHS Team by assisting in conducting risk-based environmental, health and safety (EHS) audits across the organization to help ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies/standards. The EHS Audit Specialist contributes to improving EHS performance by identifying potential risks, supporting audit documentation, and collaborating with site teams and Group EHS Leadership. This role is essential in promoting a strong EHS culture and advancing Reliance’s goal of eliminating workplace injuries and community impacts.

If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work. Job Function:

• Support the execution of EHS audits at Reliance operating facilities under the direction of the Audit Program Manager.
• Assist in the planning and coordination of audit logistics, including site communications, documentation requests, and schedule confirmations.
• Participate in site walkthroughs, employee interviews, and documentation reviews to assess compliance with Reliance’s EHS standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Collect, organize, and analyze audit evidence to support audit findings and observations.
• Document audit notes and preliminary findings accurately and clearly, contributing to the development of final audit reports.
• Track and follow up on corrective actions, supporting the resolution of identified deficiencies through Reliance’s audit tracking systems (e.g., EMIS, Service Now, iAuditor).
• Maintain a working knowledge of relevant EHS regulations (i.e., OSHA, HSE, etc.), Reliance’s EHS Management System, and corporate EHS audit protocols.
• Participate in auditor training sessions and continuous learning opportunities to build auditing skills and regulatory knowledge.
• Support the continuous improvement of audit tools, templates, and checklists, providing feedback to the Corporate EHS team.
• Collaborate effectively with site personnel, group EHS leaders, and other audit team members to ensure objective, thorough, and professional audit execution.

 

SUPPLEMENTAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

• Be able to travel up to 50% with no travel limitations to any Reliance operating locations (global).

• Work independently while maintaining a clear understanding of Reliance’s EHS culture, compliance expectations, and key drivers that influence EHS performance.
• Communicate effectively with site personnel and audit teams, demonstrating a strong understanding of EHS topics, including safety, environmental compliance, industrial hygiene, and risk management.
• Collaborate and build strong working relationships across a highly matrixed organization, supporting both Corporate and Group-level EHS initiatives.
• Contribute to the consistency and execution of Reliance’s global EHS audit process, helping ensure alignment across business units.
• Support the development and tracking of audit-related goals and metrics and assist in integrating these into Group-level EHS performance improvement strategies.
• Support the Reliance Corporate Safety and Health Manager and the Manager, Environmental, Sustainability, & EHS Systems, as needed, for up to 25 percent of work capacity. These duties may include supporting corporate initiatives related to safety, health, environmental compliance, and sustainability; contributing to the development and maintenance of EHS systems; coordinating data collection and reporting; and promoting alignment between site-level practices and corporate EHS objectives.

 

Required Skills:

• Relevant safety/EHS-related technical degree (i.e., chemical, industrial, or mechanical engineering, or environmental science/safety) or analytical degree a plus.
• Professional certification or designation preferred (i.e., CSP, CIH, ASP, GSP, etc.).
• Five plus (5+) years of experience in EHS, including three plus (3+) years of EHS auditing.
• Strong working knowledge of regulatory standards and general industry regulations.
• Ability to assess operational risk and communicate technical findings to non-EHS personnel.
• High attention to detail, analytical mindset, and strong organizational skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and auditing platforms (e.g., EMIS, SafetyCulture, etc.).
• Knowledge of manufacturing plant operations, safety cultures and systems.
• Excellent communication, organization, and team/collaboration skills.
• Self-motivated and able to function independently.
• Conduct work with the highest level of ethical standards in adherence to Reliance values.
