Driver - Steel Distribution

Job Summary:

As a Steel Distribution Truck Driver, you will play a critical role in the safe and timely delivery of steel products to our customers. This position requires an experienced Class A CDL driver who is skilled in flatbed transportation, capable of securing heavy loads, and committed to safety and professionalism. Drivers must be comfortable working in varying indoor and outdoor conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, rain, and other weather elements.

This is a physical role that requires lifting, securing, and maneuvering heavy steel products, so candidates must be able to meet the physical demands of the job.

Key Responsibilities:

Safe Transportation:

• Operate flatbed trucks to transport steel products safely and efficiently to customer locations.
• Adhere to all DOT regulations, traffic laws, and company safety policies while driving.
• Ensure proper weight distribution and securement of loads to prevent shifting during transit.

Loading and Unloading:

• Properly load, secure, and unload steel products using chains, binders, and straps to ensure stability.
• Assist with manual handling of materials when needed, including lifting up to 75 lbs.
• Work in varied environments, including warehouses, yards, and outdoor loading areas.

Route Planning & Time Management:

• Plan and follow efficient delivery routes to minimize travel time and fuel consumption.
• Utilize GPS and navigation tools while maintaining flexibility for unexpected route changes.
• Communicate with dispatch regarding delays, road conditions, and schedule changes.

Vehicle Maintenance & Inspections:

• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure truck safety and readiness.
• Report any mechanical issues promptly and coordinate with maintenance teams for repairs.
• Keep the truck clean and in compliance with all DOT regulations.

Customer Interaction & Documentation:

• Professionally interact with customers during deliveries and pickups.
• Obtain signatures and complete necessary delivery paperwork accurately.
• Address customer inquiries and escalate any concerns to the appropriate team.

Safety & Compliance:

• Follow all safety protocols when handling steel materials, securing loads, and operating equipment.
• Wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and adhere to workplace safety guidelines.
• Participate in ongoing safety training and compliance programs.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Licensing & Experience:

• Valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record.
• Proven experience as a truck driver, preferably with flatbed and steel transportation.
• Familiarity with steel products, loading/unloading procedures, and securing heavy materials.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

• Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs regularly.
• Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
• Capable of climbing onto flatbeds, securing loads with chains and straps, and using manual tools.
• Standing, kneeling, bending, and maneuvering heavy equipment throughout the workday.
