Position Title: Donor Recruitment Representative I

FLSA: Full-time (40 hours/week), Non-exempt (hourly) plus benefits

Salary: $18.00 per hour

Schedule: Monday - Friday; (8 hours/day); 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Location: Remote (after training onsite). Must live within commutable distance of HQ for meetings/trainings.

San Diego Blood Bank is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization also operating as Southern California Blood Bank. We serve hospitals in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange Counties. We are the primary blood provider to Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego and the safety net for hospitals in our region. Every year, more than 150,000 units of blood provided by San Diego Blood Bank are transfused into patients of all ages, socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds throughout Southern California. These patients are struggling with life-threatening medical conditions including cancer and other blood disorders, severe burns, organ transplants, emergency surgery, trauma, childbirth complications and more.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Summary)

The San Diego Blood Bank is seeking a highly motivated individual to help save lives. As part of the donor recruitment team, you will spend time calling previous donors and securing their commitment to come back. Your job is to increase the number of times donors come in a year and secure commitments to different types of donations, such as platelets and plasma. You will share special offers and needs at various points in the calendar year. Also, you provide a strong customer experience for each donor, ensuring their commitment to SDBB.


WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE (Key Responsibilities):

  • Place a high volume of outbound calls and meet daily, weekly and monthly goals using a preview dialing system.
  • Overcome barriers such as fear due to previous experience, hectic schedules, lack of commitment, and commitments to other causes.
  • Utilize sales training methods to have unique conversations with donors, listening to their concerns and overcoming barriers on the spot.
  • Contact donors who have lapsed and get them to come back.
  • Convert donors to increased numbers of donations per year and new donation types.
  • Increase number of donations from certain blood types. For example, ensure the proper level of O- blood type, which is only 6 percent of the population but a much higher need.
  • Maintain donor records and accurately update demographic and master file information.
  • Provide donors with accurate information regarding their donation opportunities, donation history, sites and contacts.
  • Participate in special calling projects and mailings.
  • Attend team and department meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications)

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Minimum one year of customer service experience in call center
  • Must be able to work on a computer for 8 hours a day.
  • Good organizational and time management skills; must be able to establish priorities and multi-task
  • Must possess great verbal communication skills and be able to communicate clearly in English.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle a wide variety of confidential information.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to learn details related to types of blood donations (i.e., whole blood, platelets, and plasma) and reasons donors can’t donate such as certain medications and travel.
  • Ability to think quickly about a wide variety of factors, such as location of donor, blood type, and highest need for the blood bank based on current blood supply.

 

WHAT WILL GIVE YOU THE COMPETITIVE EDGE (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Bilingual in English & an additional language preferred
  • Previous blood bank or medical experience a plus
