Director, Utility-Scale Renewable Energy Development

Overview

The Director / Senior Director of Development leads the full lifecycle development of

utility-scale renewable energy projects, including solar and battery energy storage

systems (BESS). This role spans greenfield origination through financial close, notice to

proceed (NTP), and commercial operation date (COD). The position requires strong

strategic leadership, technical and commercial expertise, and the ability to manage

complex, multi-disciplinary teams across multiple U.S. markets, with a strong emphasis

on ERCOT/Texas.

Key Responsibilities

Project Development & Lifecycle Management

Lead utility-scale solar and storage projects from greenfield scouting and LOI

through NTP and COD.

Oversee site identification, land acquisition, title review, interconnection,

permitting, environmental studies, engineering design, and pre-construction

planning.

Coordinate closely with utilities, grid operators (including ERCOT), and local,

state, and federal regulatory agencies.

Maintain control of development budgets, schedules, risk registers, and

permitting timelines.

Support projects through construction to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery and

operational readiness.

Strategic Development & Market Leadership

Collaborate with executive leadership on pipeline strategy, portfolio optimization,

and risk management.

Support mergers, acquisitions, and project purchases, including screening, due

diligence, and strategic evaluation.

Prepare investor-ready materials to support project financing, tax equity, and

asset sales.

Financial & Commercial Management

Own development budgets, financial performance, and project tracking systems.

Evaluate and structure commercial solutions such as tax abatements, incentives,

and equity partnerships.

Support financing processes through financial close or project disposition.

External Engagement & Stakeholder Management

Lead community engagement, landowner and lease negotiations, permitting

discussions, and stakeholder outreach.

Build and maintain strong relationships with landowners, utilities, regulators, and

external partners.

Champion safety, compliance, and sustainability best practices across all

development activities.
