Overview:

HarperCollins Publishers is launching a state-of-the-art, 1.6 million-square-foot, 24/7 distribution center designed to revolutionize supply chain logistics with cutting-edge technology. To lead the HR function for this flagship facility, we’re seeking a seasoned Director, People to drive workforce strategy, foster a culture of respect, and ensure operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

The Director, People will oversee HR operations for our new facility, partnering with senior leadership to align workforce strategies with business goals. This role requires expertise in managing multi-shift, 24/7 operations, policy design and implementation, employee relations, talent acquisition, compliance, and training. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in OSHA compliance, including 300 log reporting and inspections, and a track record of success in large-scale warehouse environments.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic HR Leadership: Develop and implement HR strategies and policies that align with operational goals, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and respect.
  • Talent Acquisition: Lead full-cycle recruiting and partner with staffing agencies to build a high-performing, multi-shift workforce.
  • Employee Relations: Guide leaders on performance management, engagement, and conflict resolution.
  • Compliance & Safety:
    • Ensure OSHA compliance, including 300 log reporting, inspections, and adherence to safety regulations.
    • Partner with operations leaders to implement and monitor safety programs and initiatives.
  • Training & Development: Oversee employee and leadership training programs to support operational excellence.
  • HR Technology: Manage time and attendance systems (UKG preferred) and leverage technology to optimize HR processes.
  • Policy Design: Create and implement policies to support a 24/7, multi-shift operation, ensuring consistency and scalability.
  • Community Engagement: Build local partnerships to enhance talent acquisition and community presence.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of HR leadership in large-scale, multi-shift, 24/7 warehouse/distribution environments.
  • Proven success launching new facilities and building HR operations.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA requirements, including 300 log reporting and inspections.
  • Expertise in employee relations, talent acquisition, policy design, and performance management.
  • Experience with HR systems (UKG preferred) and workforce metrics.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

The salary range for this position is $130,000-$150,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. As a result, we aim for flexibility in structuring competitive compensation offers to ensure we are able to attract the best candidates. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
