This position leads a fully in-house outpatient clinic located within a skilled nursing facility that specializes in geriatric rehabilitation for community-dwelling older adults. It is a unique opportunity to lead and grow an outpatient program in a setting that blends the resources of a skilled nursing facility with the accessibility and independence of an outpatient clinic. Experience or interest in aquatic therapy is a plus as the program continues to expand innovative rehabilitation services for older adults.

Position Summary

The Director of Rehabilitation (Outpatient) is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and management of all outpatient therapy services. This role oversees clinical operations, staff performance, program development, and regulatory compliance while ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. The Director collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to support optimal patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and growth of outpatient rehabilitation services.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Provide leadership and oversight of outpatient rehabilitation services including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy as applicable.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate rehabilitation staff to ensure high performance and professional development.
  • Develop and implement departmental goals, policies, and procedures aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Ensure efficient scheduling, staffing, and workflow to maximize productivity and patient access to services.
  • Monitor key performance indicators including productivity, patient satisfaction, outcomes, and financial performance.


Clinical Oversight

  • Ensure delivery of high-quality therapy services that meet professional standards and best practices.
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support staff in clinical decision-making and complex patient care situations.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and adherence to billing and reimbursement requirements.


Program Development

  • Identify opportunities for growth and expansion of outpatient therapy services.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop strategic initiatives that improve patient outcomes and community outreach.
  • Promote outpatient rehabilitation services within the organization and community.


Financial & Administrative Management

  • Manage departmental budgets, resource allocation, and cost containment initiatives.
  • Review productivity metrics and implement strategies to optimize operational efficiency.
  • Participate in strategic planning and reporting related to rehabilitation services.


Collaboration

  • Work closely with physicians, nursing, case management, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and organizational initiatives.
  • Support marketing and referral relationships with community partners.


Qualifications

  • Current and active license as Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant, Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant, or Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Clinical experience in a skilled care rehabilitation setting.
  • Proven leadership experience managing therapy teams is preferred. 
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and quality improvement.
  • Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and organizational skills.
