Position Summary
The Director of Rehabilitation (DOR) is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and clinical oversight of the rehabilitation department within a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). This role ensures the delivery of high-quality therapy services (physical, occupational, and speech therapy) while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, optimizing patient outcomes, and achieving financial and operational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Direct and supervise all rehabilitation staff, including Physical Therapists (PT), Occupational Therapists (OT), Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP), and therapy assistants.
Recruit, onboard, train, and evaluate team members.
Foster a positive, collaborative, and patient-centered team environment.
Develop staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage and productivity.
Clinical Oversight
Ensure delivery of high-quality, evidence-based therapy services.
Monitor patient progress and outcomes; adjust programs as needed.
Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams on care plans.
Maintain appropriate caseload as required.
Compliance & Documentation
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, CMS guidelines).
Oversee accurate and timely documentation, including evaluations, treatment notes, and discharge summaries.
Prepare for and participate in audits and surveys.
Financial & Operational Management
Manage department budget, including staffing, supplies, and equipment.
Monitor productivity, utilization, and reimbursement metrics.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability without compromising care quality.
Ensure accurate billing practices and support revenue cycle processes.
Program Development
Develop and implement rehabilitation programs tailored to the SNF population.
Identify opportunities for service line growth and clinical program expansion.
Promote facility services to referral sources and within the community.
Qualifications
Education & Licensure
Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech-Language Pathology program.
Current, active state licensure in discipline.
CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
Experience
Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical experience in a SNF or post-acute setting.
At least 1–2 years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of Medicare Part A/B, PDPM, and SNF regulations.
