Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
As an instructional Leader, the Director of Instruction and Curriculum will collaborate with the Executive Director and Principal in overseeing curriculum development, alignment, instruction, assessments, and professional development for the staff. Reporting to the principal, the DI&C will be a results-driven leader using date to make decisions to promote student achievement.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Designs and develops curriculum that aligns with NYS Standards for all subject areas
+ Supervise Academic Coaches in providing staff support in the implementation of of curriculum
+ Design and develop benchmark assessment for all core subject areas, as needed
+ Oversee and manage school-wide diagnostic and benchmark assessments
+ Leads professional development around classroom-level data analysis and data-driven instruction
+ Prepares academic data reports key to making responsive and timely data-driven decisions with action plans to adjust instructional practices.
+ Oversees the Response To Intervention protocol and Intervention Teams.
CURRICULUM:
+ Select and purchase curriculum materials for the school
+ Manage and inventory curriculum items each school year
+ Develop and maintain the curriculum LOGS (Learning Objectives Guide) for grades K-8
+ Decide pacing, scope and sequence for implementation of common core learning standards.
+ Oversee the development and implementation of writing unit plans for grades K-8
+ Plan and schedule extracurricular field trips, events, and assemblies for exposure and background knowledge (includes all approval of requested trips as well)
+ Align state testing items to curriculum
+ Develop and share school-wide academic calendar
INSTRUCTION:
+ Create, implement, and approve classroom daily schedules
+ Plan and prep for student state test preparation
+ Instruct small groups of students in testing grades 6 weeks prior to state assessment
+ Review lesson plans and check for alignment of curriculum mandates
+ Develop instructional plans for classrooms
ASSESSMENT:
+ Serve as Test Coordinator for all State and Internal Assessments
+ Review and edit bi-weekly, weekly, benchmark, and module assessments
+ Develop and implement school-wide assessment calendar
+ Co-Host weekly data meeting using the EWI format (Early Warning Indicator) and KCCS Management Checklist
+ Review, analyze, and make decisions based on school-wide data results
+ Assist in creating an Action Plan each year based on assessment results
+ Communicate school results to the Education Committee (Board of Directors)
+ Update all staff on assessment results
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
+ Plan and prepare agendas, topics, and materials for all KCCS professional development
+ Log professional development hours on a chart each week (participants, topic, location, time, etc.)
+ Keep sign-in sheets and a binder of all sessions as evidence
+ Approve professional development requests from staff
+ Contract out for professional development opportunities from outside vendors
OTHER DUTIES:
+ Assist in completing the CSI Accountability, Action Plan, and Renewal Reports
+ Member of the Leadership Team
+ Prepare and organize Education Committee Meetings
+ Assist in report card checks and parent conference planning
+ Assist in planning of academic tutoring for Summer and Afterschool
Director of Instruction and Curriculum
Summer Work Duties
The Director of Instruction and Curriculum works full-time during the summer to ensure that everything is in place for the upcoming school year. Duties include the following:
+ Assist in completing the CSI Accountability Report and Action Plan
+ Plan and prepare for August Professional Development
+ Order materials for each classroom
+ Develop school school-wide class schedule
+ Interview/meet with teachers and instructional staff
+ Complete curriculum LOGS for grades K-8 for core subjects
+ Create Staff Binders for professional development
+ Plan and prepare for weekly leadership meetings
+ Prepare all teacher materials for instruction
+ Inventory all instructional materials
+ Analyze end of year data
+ Prepare assessments for Fall screening
+ Update assessment binders
+ Attend professional development trainings for the Buffalo Public Schools Loan Program
Qualifications:
+ Master's Degree in Education
+ Minimum 5 years teaching experience in an elementary charter school, preferably with experience in literacy
+ Minimum of 2 years of experience developing curriculum
+ Demonstrated understanding of instructional practice, including delivery of instruction, assessment, and data analysis of student performance
+ Ability to develop and deliver professional development and supervision to staff
+ Alignment to KCCS's mission, core values, and educational philosophy, including Leader In Me.
+ Ability to remain relevant to the evolving landscape of instructional practices and curriculum development.
Experience in an urban setting preferred.
