Our client, a respected nonprofit organization serving the Southwest Florida community, is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to provide leadership over the organization’s accounting and financial operations. This role works closely with the CFO and executive team to ensure strong financial management, regulatory compliance, and long-term fiscal sustainability.
This is a strong opportunity for a finance leader who wants to combine technical expertise with mission-driven work while helping guide the financial health of a growing nonprofit organization.
This position will oversee the day-to-day accounting function while also playing a key role in financial planning, reporting, and strategic decision-making across the organization.
Position Overview
The Director of Finance will lead the accounting team and ensure the accuracy and integrity of the organization’s financial reporting. This individual will oversee the monthly close process, manage the annual audit, support budgeting and forecasting efforts, and help strengthen internal controls and financial processes.
In addition, the Director of Finance will partner with program leaders and executive leadership to provide meaningful financial insights that support operational and strategic initiatives.
Duties include:
Lead the organization’s accounting operations and oversee the monthly and annual close process
Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
Review reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules to maintain strong financial controls
Coordinate the annual budgeting process with department leaders and senior leadership
Analyze budget performance and provide guidance around financial trends and variances
Assist leadership with forecasting and long-term financial planning initiatives
Manage the annual external audit and serve as the primary contact for auditors
Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial reporting requirements and applicable regulatory standards
Oversee preparation of required tax filings and financial disclosures
Supervise and support the accounting team, including staff responsible for AP, payroll, grants, and general accounting
Provide coaching, development, and performance management to build a strong and collaborative department
Promote efficient processes and appropriate internal controls across accounting operations
Partner with the CFO on treasury and cash management activities
Monitor cash flow and provide leadership with visibility into financial performance and potential risks
Work closely with program and operational leaders to help them understand financial results and budgets
Oversee grant-related financial activity and ensure accurate tracking and reporting of grant funds
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
CPA or CMA preferred
5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including leadership of an accounting team
Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting practices
Experience with budgeting, financial reporting, and external audits
Background working with grants or government-funded programs strongly preferred
