This unique seasonal camp position, paying a salary of $20,000, is responsible for fostering a positive relationship with the camps, with the goal of meeting their needs as best as possible while ensuring that camp operations run smoothly and safely. As part of this, the Director of Camp Services is responsible for the hiring and overall supervision of a top-notch group of engaged Aquatics staff.

ABOUT THE HENRY KAUFMANN CAMPGROUNDS (HKC)
HKC is a not-for-profit operating in the day camp sphere. Home to 11 independently run JCC day camps, HKC manages and operates three facilities located in Rockland County, Long Island and Staten Island.
As a seasonal organization, HKC hires 300 seasonal workers to provide aquatics supervision, maintenance and janitorial services which enables HKC to carry out our mission to meet the needs of the camps who run their programs at HKC and providing a safe environment to do so.

THE WORK CYCLE OF THE DIRECTOR OF CAMP SERVICES
The Director of Camp Services is the front-line HKC representative to the four camps at HKC Rockland County, serving as their liaison with HKC operations (maintenance, security and aquatics). When camp is in session, this individual is focused on ensuring operations run safely and smoothly, and that the camps' needs are met. Simultaneously, the Director of Camp Services also oversees the HKC staff experience and providing high-level support for the Aquatics program, including weekly check-ins with the supervisory staff.
During the off-season the Director of Camp Services will be available to meet with management and provide information as management plans the upcoming summer. Starting in the late winter, the Director of Camp Services is hiring new aquatics staff and communicating with the veteran staff. Other spring duties include working with management on the planning for the summer and setting up materials for smooth camp operations. This individual is also involved in conducting leadership training and staff orientation.
The Director of Camp Services will be joining an organization that values collaboration, initiative, respect, and employee satisfaction and is expected to foster a culture that inspires team morale and encourages staff to produce quality work. Reporting to the Chief of Staff this position will also be working collaboratively with the Property Manager, the Aquatics Director and the HR Manager to carry out the mission of the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds.
WORK SCHEDULE
This position operates year-round but is only full-time for eight – nine weeks. When camp is operating, this person is required to be on-site full-time, Monday - Friday with the work day starting no later than 8:00am and ending no earlier than 4:15pm.
From September - January, the work load is anywhere from 2-5 hours each month. Hours flux from February - April and can be anywhere from 2-5 hours/wk. May is generally 5-10 hours/wkand, and June may require up to 20 hours/wk before camp starts.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have exceptional people skills, strong emotional intelligence and the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Our ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree or the equivalent, three or more years of management experience at a day or overnight camp, have experience hiring and supervising staff and with conflict resolution. They should also have strong oral and written communication skills, be skilled in utilizing computer software to manage and execute tasks, and be calm under pressure.
If you are experienced in conflict management, have worked as a camp director, or have experience supervising teens and other young adults, even better.
