Our client is seeking an experienced Director of Benefits to lead the strategy, design, implementation, and administration of comprehensive employee benefit programs for a large, complex healthcare organization. This role ensures all benefit plans are competitive, cost‑effective, compliant, and aligned with organizational goals. The Director oversees benefits operations, vendor relationships, plan governance, and benefits communication while managing a team of benefits professionals.

Requirements:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of benefits professionals.
  • Develop and monitor metrics to evaluate program effectiveness and ROI.
  • Lead the design, development, and administration of competitive, cost‑effective benefit programs that support employee attraction, retention, and engagement.
  • Oversee benefits operations, compliance, vendor management, and plan governance.
  • Ensure all benefit programs comply with federal and state regulations, including ERISA, IRS, DOL, HIPAA, COBRA, and FMLA.
  • Manage relationships with consultants, brokers, actuaries, and third‑party administrators.
  • Partner with HR, HRIS, Finance, and executive leadership to align benefits strategy with organizational goals.
  • Drive process improvements, automation, and system enhancements to improve benefits delivery.
  • Oversee benefits communication strategy, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and accessibility for employees.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex benefits issues and provide guidance to HR partners.
  • Support organizational initiatives related to wellness, employee experience, and total rewards.

Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and motivate a high‑performing team.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and project‑management skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field required.
  • Experience working with HRIS systems and leading system enhancements.
  • 10+ years managing benefits operations in a complex, multi‑site organization (healthcare experience strongly preferred)
  • Deep experience with plan design, evaluation, compliance, and implementation for: Health & Welfare Plans, Pension Plans, 403(b) and 401(k) Plans, Non‑qualified Plans, Life & AD&D, Short‑Term Disability, Voluntary Benefits.
  • Strong knowledge of COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ERISA, IRS, DOL regulations, and healthcare reform.

Certifications:

  • HR‑related certification preferred (e.g., CEBS, CBP)
