DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

  • The Director of Audit provides strategic leadership and hands-on oversight of internal audit, internal controls, and risk management across Lake Charles Memorial Health System (LCMHS). The role drives governance excellence, effective controls, and continuous improvement across financial, operational, clinical, and technology processes in a multi-facility community health system. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and the Audit & Compliance Committee, combining technical rigor with practical, solutions-oriented guidance.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Develop and execute a risk-based annual audit plan aligned to LCMHS strategy, operations, and regulatory environment.
  • Lead all phases of audit delivery (planning, fieldwork, reporting), ensuring high-quality workpapers, clear findings, and actionable recommendations.
  • Present results, emerging risks, and trend analyses to senior leadership and the Audit & Compliance Committee with clarity and executive presence.
  • Strengthen audit methodology, documentation standards, and reporting quality to enhance transparency and organizational confidence.
  • Evaluate the reliability and integrity of information and the efficient and effective use of resources in the organization.
  • Review compliance with policies, procedures and state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Lake Charles Memorial Health System and external audit firms, ensuring transparent communication, timely information exchange, and efficient coordination of annual financial statement audits.
  • Assist individuals who perform operational and financial activities with risk assessments and action plans in their responsibility areas to heighten awareness of major exposures, loss potential, and or transactional anomalies and facilitate discussion of practical ways to manage or avoid them.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in internal audit, public accounting, or healthcare financial operations, including leadership of audit/controls teams.
  • Professional certification: CPA, CIA, CISA, or equivalent
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, reports and legal documents; Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to present information to top management, public groups, employees and/or administration; Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Work is typically performed in an office setting; frequent sitting for extended periods; manual dexterity with repetitive motion of wrists/hands/fingers. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Occasional standing and walking; light physical effort including lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Ability to read forms, computer screens, correspondence and other documents.
