Job Summary:

The Director of Field Education of School of Social Work (SWRK) at Hawai?i Pacific University (HPU) is responsible for the implementation, supervision, and assessment of all functions of the Field Education Program to include students' placement in and progress through all field education courses, agency selection, assignment of students according to clear criteria, and monitoring of student progress toward completion of field requirements.

 

Location: This is an on-site position requiring residency on Oahu, with assignments at HPU downtown campus sites (Waterfront Plaza, Aloha Tower Marketplace) and field sites.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

 

• Master degree in Social Work from a program accredited by the CSWE

• At least 2 years of experience in the practice of social work

• Physically located on O?ahu and able to travel between to all HPU worksites and other locations as required by the position.

 

Desired Qualifications:

 

• License of Clinical Social Work (LCSW) or relevant clinical license

• Record of successful teaching, scholarship, administrative experience, and community service

• Knowledge of and/or experience in curriculum and faculty development

• Knowledge of and/or experience in evaluation of instructional personnel and programs Extensive experience in field education, and practice of social work at more than one level (micro, mezzo, macro)

• Knowledge of social service context and agencies in the United States, especially within the state of Hawai?i.

 

Other Qualifications:

 

• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance is not available for this position.

• Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work during HPU's winter break, if necessary. This position may be considered an essential position with report to work obligations depending on the type of emergency, campus closure, or evacuation.

• Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy.

• Upon hire, candidate must have reliable personal transportation to facilitate travel between to all HPU worksites and other locations as required by the position. This includes a valid driver's license and a personal vehicle that is legally registered and insured.

• Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilize excellent time and stress management skills.

• Candidates must be resident on island by the contract start date.

 

Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:

Administration of Field Education (80%)

 

• Find, select, cultivate and grow field practicum sites that offer excellent student experiences.

• Meet regularly either face-to-face on-site or online, with community partners.

• Work with Online Program Management (OPM) company and their representatives.

• Attend bi-weekly meetings with OPM field placement team

• Attend community meetings on a regularly to strengthen collaboration with field sites. Supervise field faculty in their field liaison roles.

• Supervise field instructors.

• Recruit new field sites and monitor the overall success of MSW and BSW students in the field.

• Maintain relationships especially island-wide, with current and potential field agencies through regular visits on site.

• Complete one site visit/semester per student/agency. Support field liaisons with meeting this objective for their seminar courses.

• Coordinate efforts to arrange for practicums for MSW/BSW students.

• Develop and assess new and existing practicum sites for MSW and BSW students.

• Train new field instructors/supervisors about the HPU SWRK Program.

• Develop and review MOUs with new and existing agency sites.

• Develop and review policies and procedures for MSW and BSW practicums.

• Develop and update handbooks which include policies and procedures for MSW and BSW practicums.

• Train and monitor new and existing seminar instructors who teach MSW and BSW field practicum seminars.

• Develop training seminars for new and continuing field instructors/supervisors to be delivered once a semester.

• Administer and collect program assessment instruments to be completed by field instructor/supervisor.

• Draft letters to field instructors/supervisors to confirm practicum, provide learning agreements, evaluation forms, syllabus for practicum seminar and other pertinent information.

• Assess and manage student progress through MSW and BSW practicum instructors and field supervisors.

• Where applicable serve as a mediator to resolve conflict between a student and an agency if unable to be resolved at the course, program or agency level.

• Serve on the SWRK leadership team in capacity as Director of Field Education.

• Participate and represent field education on SWRK curriculum committees.

 

Teaching (15%)

 

• Teach a minimum of 6 credits a year in the BSW and/or MSW program.

 

Others (5 %)

 

• Assist and support student clubs and/or activities (e.g. Phi Alpha, Social Work Club, pinning ceremony, Culturally Immersive Reciprocal Community-Engaged Learning and Services (CIRCELS)).

• Perform other duties as assigned.
