Position Overview:

SFBU Ventures, Inc. is seeking a Digital Interface Designer (AI Products) to design and deliver AI-enabled digital interfaces for learning and student-support experiences. This role will contribute to multiple initiatives, including AI literacy programs, AI admissions counseling tools, and embedded AI features in educational programs.

This position applies established and applied principles of human-computer interaction and user experience design, along with a working understanding of AI system behavior, to develop scalable, compliant, and user-centered digital products. The role involves independent execution within a defined scope, cross-functional collaboration with AI engineers, and translating defined AI capabilities, requirements, and constraints into intuitive user-facing interfaces.

The ideal candidate brings a strong product design portfolio, a user-centered mindset, and a practical understanding of how AI systems work, including their core components, strengths, and limitations. Engineering-level AI expertise is not required.

Responsibilities

User Experience Design & Prototyping (40% of time)

  • Translate defined AI product concepts and established design requirements into detailed user flows, annotated wireframes, and interactive prototypes, applying professional judgment to produce multiple design iterations per project cycle

  • Create high-fidelity, clickable prototypes using Figma for interface design and no-code or low-code tools such as Lovable and Replit, delivering testable prototypes within established sprint timelines

  • Contribute to and extend established design systems, including UI components, interaction patterns, color systems, typography standards, and accessibility guidelines for AI-enabled digital interfaces

  • Prepare polished design artifacts and mockups to communicate AI-enabled interface concepts to internal stakeholders and cross-functional partners during design and product reviews

  • Design AI–human interaction patterns within defined system parameters, including explainability elements, feedback indicators, confidence signals, and error-handling flows

  • Apply documented AI system constraints, data dependencies, and functional requirements to interface logic and interaction patterns

User Research & Validation (25% of time)

  • Conduct and contribute to user research activities, including interviews, usability testing, and structured feedback sessions with students, administrators, employers, and other stakeholders

  • Develop and adapt research materials such as discussion guides, surveys, and usability testing scripts under established research frameworks

  • Analyze qualitative feedback and relevant quantitative indicators to identify usability issues and feature improvement opportunities

  • Synthesize research findings and usability insights into clear design recommendations to inform iterative improvements

  • Apply established usability and accessibility evaluation methods to assess user experience effectiveness, including clarity, trust, and accessibility

  • Incorporate data-informed insights into iterative design and product decision-making in coordination with product and engineering teams

Product Collaboration & Delivery Support (25% of time)

  • Collaborate with engineering teams and AI developers to deliver complete design assets, interaction specifications, and implementation-ready documentation

  • Contribute to refining product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria based on usability and interface considerations

  • Provide informed design input on usability and feasibility to support product planning and delivery decisions

  • Participate in weekly sprint planning and bi-weekly product review meetings

  • Implement defined system behaviors and interface logic in collaboration with AI engineers and data scientists

  • Prepare detailed interaction documentation aligned with established product and engineering standards

Iterative Design & Quality Assurance (10% of time)

  • Review implemented features against approved design specifications and participate in QA testing of user interfaces

  • Iterate on designs based on user feedback, testing results, analytics data, and technical constraints in coordination with product and engineering teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience Design, Interaction Design, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Information Systems, or a closely related technical field is required

  • Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience Design, or a related discipline preferred

  • 2 to 4 years of progressively responsible experience in digital product or interface design roles involving web-based or data-driven platforms

  • Experience working in collaborative product or development environments

  • Demonstrated ability to take a product from concept to prototype and market validation

  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma and comparable platforms

  • Experience contributing meaningfully to user research and usability testing activities

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, AI specialists, and non-technical stakeholders

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present prototypes and synthesize insights

  • Working knowledge of AI-enabled product features and user experience considerations, including system limitations and ethical implications

Compensation

Annual base salary range of $77,000 – $90,000, commensurate with experience and prevailing wage requirements where work is conducted, plus benefits.
