Overview:

The Secretary provides administrative support to assigned departments and the Behavioral Health Division.  Services will be provided at St. Hospital and in the Partial Hospitalization Program office.  Foremost among the responsibilities listed below is the delivery of competent and professional services that are in accordance with the overall institutional goals and objectives, regulatory standards and requirements and their own professional ethical standards.  St. Luke’s C.A.R.E. deliver model (Continuity, Accountability, Relationship-based, Evidence-based) reflects a commitment to compassionate, competent care delivered by the interdisciplinary team.  Care is provided through a therapeutic relationship with the client and family.  A spirit of inquiry is encouraged and supported.  Small tests of change and more formal research efforts are used when the evidence is not clear.  Evidence-driven protocols are utilized to assure reliable and consistent care.  The patients to be served include adult and geriatric.

Responsibilities:

Secretarial Activities

  • Receives and assists with appropriate disposition of department telephone calls.
  • Opens and routes mail.
  • Types and composes correspondence and other written communication as required.
  • Maintains systematic and easily retrievable files.
  • Disseminated information relative to administrative policies.
  • Maintains confidential files.
  • Schedules patient appointments.
  • Completes registration of patients.
  • Enters department charges in timely manner per policy.
  • Performs insurance verifications and checks insurance benefits for patient files.
  • Reminds clinical staffs of authorizations and re-authorizations that are due in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as deemed necessary to meet the hospital’s mission and vision.

Development

  • Continues professional development through networking and attending in-hospital trainings.
  • Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
  • Participates in mandatory education and department staff meetings, per established guidelines.
Qualifications:
  • Requires high school diploma or GED.  
  • Must have previous secretarial experience. Computer literacy is required.
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
