The position is for a Nuclear Cybersecurity Systems Administrator. Our client is a leader in nuclear clean energy, supporting the secure operation of plant data networks and next-generation monitoring systems. This Nuclear Cybersecurity Systems Administrator will play a key role in building, configuring, and testing secure IT infrastructure in a highly regulated environment.
Contract Length: 6 months, with possible extension
Location: Warrenville, IL
Work Setup: On-site
Shift: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
The Nuclear Cybersecurity Systems Administrator will assist engineers in designing, configuring, and documenting SIEM hardware, network infrastructure, and secure system environments. This role requires eligibility for Critical Group nuclear site access, including successful drug and background screening and periodic site visits (approximately every 20 days).
Nuclear Cybersecurity Systems Administrator Responsibilities
Install, configure, and upgrade Windows Server environments (2019, 2025, 2026)
Set up and configure physical and virtual servers (Hyper-V)
Build and support a small lab environment in Warrenville for SIEM redesign and testing
Configure IP addressing, gateways, routing, and basic network infrastructure
Assist in configuring and managing firewalls via GUI
Perform system backups, recovery procedures, and maintain data integrity
Test and document SIEM hardware, software, and network configurations
Support secure plant data networks in compliance with nuclear regulatory standards
Nuclear Cybersecurity Systems Administrator Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
3–5 years of experience in systems administration, IT infrastructure, or cybersecurity
Strong server configuration experience (Windows Server environments)
Experience setting up virtual machines and working with Hyper-V
Solid understanding of basic networking (IP addressing, gateways, routing)
Ability to configure servers, cabling, and network hardware
Eligibility to obtain and maintain a nuclear badge (pass drug and background checks)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk)
Familiarity with firewall configuration and network security tools
Experience in regulated environments such as energy or utilities
