Location: Detroit, MI 48236
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: 5×8-Hour Days
Hours per Week: 40 Hours
Guaranteed Hours: Dependent on facility requirements
Shift Options:
6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM, or 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM
On-Call: Yes (48 hours of call per 6-week schedule; must be available 1 weekend per month)
Interview: Phone or Microsoft Teams (15 minutes)
Job Description:
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and surgical team, the Senior Surgical Technologist is responsible for handling surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment during general to complex surgical procedures. This role requires anticipating the needs of the surgeon and ensuring a safe and efficient operating room environment. Responsibilities also include patient preparation, transport, and assisting the surgical team with patient care duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare the operating room with appropriate instruments and supplies
- Scrub and assist in complex surgical procedures including cardiac and transplant cases
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon during procedures
- Ensure proper functioning of surgical instruments and equipment
- Maintain sterile environment and follow infection control protocols
- Assist with patient positioning, preparation, and transport
- Respond to emergency situations as per established procedures
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the operating room
- Collaborate effectively with the surgical team
- Participate in training, education, and departmental activities
Required Experience:
- Strong experience in CVOR and cardiac scrub cases
- Experience with cardiopulmonary bypass procedures preferred
- Ability to handle complex, high-acuity surgical cases
Certifications/Licenses:
- BLS certification required (or must obtain within one month)
- Surgical Technologist certification required OR 3–5 years of relevant experience in lieu of certification
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Completion of a Surgical Technology program
- Knowledge of surgical procedures, techniques, and operating room practices
