Renton Technical College is seeking a Swing Shift Custodial Supervisor! This position is responsible for the overall management and day-to-day operations of the custodial department and the custodial services provided across the campus. The Custodial team provides students, staff, and the community with a safe and healthy educational environment by maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of buildings, offices, classrooms, building entrances, and exterior walkways. This position is a "working supervisor" role and in addition to custodial work, performs responsible supervisory work involving the assignment and direct supervision of employees in the swing shift.


The Custodial Supervisor is represented by the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Classified Union. This is a full-time, classified, and overtime eligible position reporting to the Facilities & Grounds Services Manager. Hours for this position are 3:30pm - 12:00am, Monday to Friday. The salary range for this role is $56,135 - $77,003 annually. Salary placement is based on applicable work experienceAdditional information is available on our benefits page and in the collective bargaining agreement (Download PDF reader).The priority consideration date for this position is April 10, 2026. Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include

  • Successful completion of own day-to-day custodial responsibilities.
  • Supervise the activities of custodians, substitute custodians and student workers directly by using both verbal and written instructions in compliance with the guidelines. 
  • Ensure that custodial services meet the needs of the college, by scheduling work activities and adjusting workloads to compensate for scheduled and unscheduled absences, changing priorities, and special custodial projects. 
  • Develop an effective team of custodial personnel by instructing all employees in the proper method and use of materials and equipment for safe and efficient work performance, evaluating individual performances to meet established standards, and providing required performance evaluations on custodial personnel.
  • Conduct daily meetings with custodial staff, disseminating information to custodians. 
  • Ensure that custodial personnel have the equipment and supplies necessary to perform custodial services by issuing supplies as needed, completing request form(s) for replacement items, and storing the supplies and equipment in a secure storage area. 
  • Ensure that administrative records and reports regarding designated custodial personnel are accurate and current by reviewing and approving employees TLR or semi- monthly time sheets and by monitoring employee absences.
  • Maintain general cleanliness of interior and exterior of the facility. 
  • Exercise good judgment and make consistent decisions, while managing time sensitive demands of the custodial department. 
  • Perform boiler checks and maintain boiler logs. 
  • Make minor adjustments and/or repairs to custodial equipment to assure efficient operation. 
  • Report safety hazards and repair needs to appropriate personnel, ensuring safe facilities. 
  • Notify the Facilities Manager when supplies, equipment, and materials required by the custodial department is needed. 
  • Strong knowledge of modern cleaning methods including methods of cleaning and preserving floors, carpets, furniture, walls and fixtures; cleaning equipment, tools, materials and supplies used in custodial work. 
  • Be familiar with operational systems (heat, electric, water). 
  • Represent the custodial department in a positive, professional courteous manner. 
  • Open building, keeping all doors open and all panic bolts working properly during building occupancy hours.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent. 
  • Three years of experience in custodial services which includes knowledge of cleaning procedures, equipment, and supplies is required. Candidates with custodial supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, supply and chemical usage, and the operation of manual and power equipment. 
  • Ability to communicate instructions to the team both verbally and in-writing, must be able to train, develop, and build a positive team environment. 
  • Ability to inspect the cleanliness of facilities and areas accessible by climbing ladders or stairs, bending, reaching on top of partitions, cabinets, bookcases and ledges, moving furniture, supplies, or equipment. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt to frequently changing priorities and prioritize multiple work assignments to meet deadlines. 
  • Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 month of hire) the production of accessibly content, whether print or electronic.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing, with college employees, departments and outside agencies. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the public. 
  • Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese). 


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to stand, walk, push, pull, bend, crouch, lift, reach and stretch throughout the workday. 
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb a ladder to heights of 25 feet, and be on your feet for an 8-hour shift.
  • Current Forklift Operator certification preferred. 
  • Current Grade IV Boiler Operator license or higher upon hire, – OR – must obtain the license within 180 days of hire date. 


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working hours for this position will be swing shift: 3:30pm to 12:00am, Monday to Friday. Work is physical in nature and is performed outdoors with exposure to a variety of weather conditions as well as in an office environment, which is adequately heated and ventilated. The Custodian Supervisor is part of the emergency team and is required to report to work when the college is closed due to emergencies.
