The Senior Programs Culinary Supervisor (Chef) is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals in support of senior programming at the Oscar Johnson, Jr. Enrichment & Recreation Center (OJJERC). This position oversees all kitchen operations, including menu development, food ordering, inventory management, meal preparation, and maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant kitchen environment.

In addition to senior meal services, this role supports broader Parks & Recreation operations by providing services for events, preparing snacks for after-school and Camp Fun Quest programs, and developing and leading nutrition and cooking classes for participants of all ages. The position also supervises part-time staff and ensures efficient daily kitchen operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Nutrition, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in cooking and kitchen operations, including menu planning, food ordering, inventory management, and meal service
  • Experience supervising staff preferred
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and health inspection standards
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Special Requirements:

  • Texas Food Manager Certification (Required)
  • Proficient in department registration/reservation software; or within one month of hire
  • Proficient in City software applications; or within one month of hire
  • American Red Cross First Aid and CPR Certification, or ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire date
  • Able to use an AED within three months of hire
  • Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or higher; clean driving record
  • Must comply with City of Conroe direct deposit payroll policy

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven knowledge of food preparation, menu planning, nutrition, and kitchen operations, including safe food handling, sanitation standards, and health regulations
  • Experience in all aspects of food service operations including ordering, inventory control, cost management, meal preparation, and service in both daily and event settings
  • Ability to supervise, train, assign, and evaluate part-time kitchen staff to ensure efficient operations, quality food service, and compliance with safety standards
  • Ability to plan, develop, and implement meal programs and culinary services, including senior meal services, youth program meals, and catering for City events
  • Ability to develop and lead nutrition and cooking classes promote healthy lifestyles and community engagement
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain organization, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to interact directly with the public utilizing excellent communication, teamwork, and customer service skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
