Overview:
Hiring Range:  $27.63-$37.05
Starting salary may be adjusted depending on experience.  
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Counseling or related field
  • Five (5) years or more of full-time related experience in alcoholism, substance abuse, law enforcement or counseling
  • Certification from the Administrative Office of Courts as a Court Referral Officer is not necessary when applying, but must be obtained within 15 (fifteen) months of employment
  • Experience in the use of a personal computer, including basic data entry
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability obtain/maintain a City of Hoover Driver's Permit

Responsibilities:
  • Evaluates court-ordered defendants' use of alcohol and/or drugs and provides assistance to the court in recommending appropriate counseling, screening, treatment, monitoring, education of and rehabilitation of defendants;
  • Evaluates defendants for referral to drug and/or alcohol treatment programs;
  • Reviews defendants' court file, interviews and obtains information from defendants for evaluation purposes and designs a court referral program for each defendant;
  • Monitors the defendant's progress through the recommended referral program and reports back to the court and the Administrative Office of Courts;
  • Administers drug testing of defendants;
  • Works to develop new resources to aid defendants;
  • Maintains files on each defendant;
  • Locates and contacts organizations that might provide assistance to defendants in various productive ways;
  • Attends municipal, district, probate and circuit courts as needed;
  • Collects and reports information pertaining to the court referral program and alcohol and drug-related offenses, as required by the Administrative Director of Courts, Court Director or Municipal Judge;
  • Assists with the creation and maintenance of budgets for court-related programs;
  • Works to educate the community regarding alcohol and drug addiction and various treatment programs;
  • Assists the Court Director in establishing short and long range goals, plans and policies;
  • Provides information or education on the Court Referral Program to judges, law enforcement personnel, prosecutors and the general public;
  • Performs related work as required under the direction of the Court Director or the Municipal Judge.
