*Ability to earn comp time GENERAL FUNCTION The Coordinated Response
Specialist (CRS) enhances Wood County's capacity to respond to
behavioral health crises and substance use issues by operating a
pre-booking deflection program and delivering community outreach. The
position works in close coordination with law enforcement, the District
Attorney's Office, and Health and Human Services, providing field-based
interventions and resource connections. It serves a critical role in
early intervention and systems navigation for at-risk individuals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Assist law enforcement in
responding to incidents involving individuals experiencing mental health
crises or living with substance use disorders. 2. Conduct screenings and
assessments to identify individual needs and recommend appropriate
levels of care or services. 3. Coordinate services and transportation
for program participants in collaboration with medical providers,
treatment agencies, and community partners. 4. Monitor program
participation and outcomes, reporting data and concerns to the Sheriff,
District Attorney, and Court Services Coordinator. 5. Participate in the
Wood County Adult Drug Treatment Court to further bridge the gap between
treatment and the criminal Justus system in an effort to break the cycle
of drug use and reducing criminal behavior. 6. Participate in the Wood
County Mental Health Court to improve public safety and the lives of
individuals with mental illness involved in the justice system by
assisting with access to treatment and support services with a goal of
reducing recidivism and promoting recovery. 7. Build and maintain
professional working relationships with participants, service providers,
law enforcement personnel, and community stakeholders. 8. Participate in
meetings and trainings with law enforcement and Court Services to ensure
effective program integration. 9. Deliver educational materials and
presentations on substance use and mental health to community members
and public safety professionals. 10. Work with the Court Services
Coordinator to gather, maintain, and report accurate program data for
use by stakeholders. 11. Responsible to know and practice the Safety
policies of the County. Perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed
manner. 12. Must be familiar with and exemplify the Wood County Core
Values and serve with courtesy and respect in accordance with the Wood
County Code of Conduct. 13. Performs other related duties as required or
assigned. KEY COMPETENCIES & SKILLS Interpersonal Communication: Engages
effectively with diverse populations, including individuals in crisis,
professionals, and the general public. Case Coordination: Plans and
manages service delivery across multiple systems with minimal
supervision. Critical Thinking: Assesses risk and needs using structured
tools; exercises sound judgment in dynamic situations. Documentation &
Compliance: Maintains accurate records in compliance with federal and
state privacy regulations. Crisis Intervention: Applies de-escalation
techniques and crisis response skills in high-pressure environments.
Motivational Interviewing: Utilizes client-centered techniques to
promote behavioral change. Technical Proficiency: Operates assessment
tools and relevant software to support client services and reporting.
Autonomy & Initiative: Manages caseload and fieldwork independently,
responding flexibly to client and system needs. * OTHER
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a valid driver's license
and access to reliable transportation. PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
At least two (2) years of experience working with individuals in crisis
or in fields related to mental health, substance use, or social work.
