Electrical Controls Engineer
Location: New Berlin, Wisconsin or Traverse City, Michigan
Status: Full-time direct hire
Compensation: $85,000 to $105,000 plus bonus
Summary
Company designs and manufactures custom products and full turnkey electro-hydraulic solutions across metalworking, energy, and mobile applications. As a Controls Engineer, you'll drive custom controls projects end-to-end: initial concept/design, PLC/HMI software development, in-house platform testing, and commissioning and final acceptance at customer sites.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop industrial PLC control solutions to meet customer-specified requirements.
- Select suitable system hardware (PLCs, HMIs, industrial electronics).
- Program PLCs primarily on Rockwell Automation platforms; knowledge of Siemens or Beckhoff is a plus.
- Develop operator HMI screens per customer requirements (FactoryTalk View ME/SE).
- Utilize control networks and connectivity: Rockwell EtherNet/IP, Siemens Profinet, standard Ethernet, and client-server database connectivity.
- Design project-specific control panels; AC/DC power distribution for control systems (480VAC, 120VAC, 24VDC circuits), operator console layouts, and wiring schematics.
- Provide regular project reporting (execution progress, planning, cost, profitability).
- Perform in-house platform tests.
- Lead/assist with commissioning of control systems at customer sites.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution is required.
- 5+ years experience in an industrial environment.
- Previous commissioning experience preferred.
- Extensive experience programming with Rockwell Automation software.
- Knowledge of I/O networks (ControlNet, EtherNet/IP, etc.).
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems is helpful but not required.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical helpful; general CAD (AutoCAD, EPLAN, SolidWorks) is an advantage.
- Functional Safety and safety programming experience desirable.
- Knowledge of electrical controls legislation/standards (NFPA, UL) and basic industrial codes.
- Valid driver's license; successful background check, drug screening, and driving record check.
- Ability to travel up to 20%.
Compensation & Benefits Salary Range: $80,000–$110,00

Physical Demands and Working Environment
• Some work performed in a non-air-conditioned shop environment.
