We are a professional staffing firm, working with organizations across the country to place exceptional candidates. Currently, we have a Controller opportunity with our client; they are a full service commercial real estate firm specializing in retail, development, property management, brokerage, and investment services. 

The Controller is responsible for below specific duties.

Your specific duties will include:

Financial Close & Reporting
  • Own the monthly and year-end close process across all entities, ensuring accurate, timely, and GAAP compliant financial statements.
  • Prepare monthly consolidated financials, property-level reporting, and supporting schedules for internal leadership and external stakeholders.
Day-to-Day Accounting Operations (Hands-on)
  • Actively perform and review general ledger activity, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Oversee full general ledger accounting for the company and affiliated entities.
Real Estate, Construction & Property Management Accounting
  • Maintain job cost accounting for construction and development projects.
  • Prepare and submit lender draw packages, including supporting documentation.
Cash Management, Investor Distributions, Debt Service, and Loan Covenant Oversight
  • Monitor daily cash balances and oversee bank reconciliations across multiple banking relationships.
  • Prepare cash flow reports and forecasts and anticipate liquidity needs.
Investor, Lender, & External Stakeholder Communication
  • Prepare and deliver financial reporting packages to investors, joint venture partners, lenders, and trustees.
  • Serve as the primary financial point of contact for external parties, including banks, partners, and tribal entities.
Team Leadership (Working Manager)
  • Directly supervise accounting staff while remaining actively involved in production work.
  • Train and support team members in real estate, development and property management accounting.
Compliance, Audit, & Tax Coordination
  • Maintain supporting documentation for audits, lender reviews, and tax filings.
  • Work directly with external CPAs, auditors, and tax advisors.
Required qualifications for the position include:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • 10 + years of progressive, hands-on accounting experience with at least 5 years in commercial real estate (retail experience is preferred).
  • Strong experience in real estate, construction, and/or property management accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience owning the full financial close process.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi-entity accounting structures.
  • Experience working with lenders, investors, and external service providers.
  • Proven experience interpreting and administering joint venture operating agreements and applying their financial and reporting provisions in practice.
  • Yardi accounting and property management system expertise required.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
Preferred qualifications for the position include:
  • CPA
  • MBA
Pay Rate Range: $165K - $240K+ annually 

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Employees have access to healthcare benefits including medical, dental and vision as well as a 401(k) plan.
