Position Summary
The Controller oversees all aspects of the company’s financial records and reporting, ensuring accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial statements. This role includes financial analysis, interpretation, forecasting support, annual budget preparation, internal audit activities, and monitoring performance against budgets and forecasts. The Controller also manages working capital and provides operational oversight across divisions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable and receivable, and ensure timely preparation of monthly financial statements
- Maintain compliance with financial regulations; coordinate internal and external audits; stay current on tax laws
- Develop and enforce internal controls to minimize errors, fraud, and omissions
- Analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide strategic recommendations to leadership
- Prepare journal entries, monthly close reports, and account reconciliations
- Review sub-ledger systems and reports for accuracy and completeness
- Support purchasing by ensuring accurate inventory transactions, including cycle counts, valuation adjustments, and cost roll-ups
- Perform banking functions such as daily deposits, ACH processing, and bank reconciliations
- Oversee customer accounts receivable, collections, and related reporting
- Serve as backup for accounts payable and accounts receivable administrators
- Review operating expenses for cost-effectiveness and recommend corrective actions
- Review daily sales batches for accurate pricing and gross margin; update sub-ledgers accordingly
- Evaluate and resolve financial procedures and workflow issues across all locations to ensure policy compliance
- Prepare required organizational reports for Kenda and act as the accounting liaison
- Maintain fixed asset inventory and update Asset Keeper records
- Manage and coordinate the year-end physical inventory process, including on-site participation
- Assist the Group Controller with special projects and external audits
- Prepare the annual budget for management approval
- Prepare sales & use tax and excise tax returns
- Establish performance standards, conduct performance reviews, manage employee relations, and ensure adherence to company policies
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required
- CPA certification or MBA required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of corporate accounts payable policies, procedures, and regulations
- In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including spreadsheet creation and analysis
- Experience with accounting software and financial systems
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, leadership, and communication abilities
- Ability to process data, format information, and generate reports
- Solid mathematical aptitude
