We are working with a long-standing, privately owned real estate investment group seeking an experienced CPA Controller to lead their accounting function. This is a highly visible role reporting directly to ownership, overseeing both property-level accounting and related family entities. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, proven leadership, and the ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on execution in a multi-entity environment.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Accounting Leadership & Financial Oversight

  • Lead the monthly close process and oversee preparation and review of financial statements
  • Supervise and mentor a team of three accounting professionals
  • Review and approve reconciliations, journal entries, payroll schedules, management fees, and weekly disbursements
  • Oversee bonus calculations and distributions (monthly, quarterly, and annual)
  • Prepare and review detailed cash reporting and partner distributions throughout the year

Treasury & Cash Management

  • Manage all treasury functions including wires, ACH, internal transfers, and positive pay
  • Oversee online banking administration and internal controls
  • Direct the company credit card program and related controls

Compliance, Tax & Audit Coordination

  • Coordinate annual audits and required reporting (HUD, 1099s, Workers’ Comp, etc.)
  • Partner with the external tax firm to provide comprehensive year-end tax schedules
  • Ensure compliance with property tax filings, business licenses, franchise and privilege taxes
  • Support estimated tax payments and ongoing tax compliance efforts

Family Entity Accounting

  • Maintain full-cycle accounting for multiple related entities (approximately 10–12)
  • Oversee general ledger activity and ensure timely bill payment and funding coordination
  • Support tax compliance and reporting requirements across all entities

Process Improvement & Project Leadership

  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve internal controls
  • Lead special projects and cross-functional initiatives with operations
  • Track deliverables and ensure timely completion of key initiatives

What We’re Looking For

  • CPA required
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within real estate, property management, or multi-entity environments
  • Demonstrated success leading and developing accounting teams
  • Strong working knowledge of tax compliance and audit coordination
  • Comfortable partnering closely with operations and ownership
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Property management software experience

This role offers a unique blend of strategic leadership and hands-on accounting in a stable, long-term environment. Ideal for a CPA who values ownership interaction, operational partnership, and meaningful impact within a privately held organization.
