Job Details
Strategic Accounting Leadership
- Lead all core accounting operations, including general ledger, cash management, accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, and revenue recognition
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance, accuracy, and efficiency
- Direct monthly and annual close processes, including reconciliations, journal entries, variance analysis, and financial reporting
- Ensure financial systems are optimized to support visibility, accountability, and operational effectiveness
Grant Accounting & Compliance
- Serve as subject matter expert on government grant accounting, compliance, and allowable cost standards
- Ensure adherence to federal guidance, state regulations, cost allocation standards, and audit requirements
- Oversee full grant lifecycle including budgeting, expense tracking, reporting, and reimbursement requests
- Prepare and maintain audit documentation, including federal award schedules
- Partner with program leaders to monitor spending, identify risks, and support informed decision-making
Program Costing & Financial Analysis
- Lead program cost analysis to determine true cost of service delivery
- Collaborate with program leaders to interpret financial results and identify efficiencies
- Develop reporting tools and dashboards to track performance, trends, and cost drivers
- Support long-term financial modeling tied to growth and strategic initiatives
Compliance, Audit & Reporting
- Oversee preparation of financial filings and regulatory reports
- Act as primary liaison for external audits and financial reviews
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and ensure ongoing compliance with internal policies
- Manage banking relationships and cash management activities
Budgeting & Organizational Support
- Assist leadership with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
- Provide financial analysis to support programs, funding proposals, and operational priorities
Technology & Process Improvement
- Oversee financial systems and tools, including automation and workflow platforms
- Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, reporting accuracy, and internal controls
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure systems integration and data integrity
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team
- Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and mission-aligned workplace culture
Additional Information:
- Standard schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings or weekends as needed
- Role may require on-site presence during emergency response situations
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required; advanced degree and/or CPA preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years in a leadership role; nonprofit and grant accounting experience strongly preferred
