Position: Controller
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Status: Full-time
A growing Midwest-based services organization is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting and financial oversight for multiple operating entities. This is a newly created role due to company growth and offers broad exposure across operations, leadership, and strategic finance.
Key Responsibilities for Controller
- Oversee month-end and quarter-end close, including preparation and review of financial statements
- Manage accounting and reporting for multiple operating and real estate entities
- Lead, mentor, and review work of accounting staff; ensure strong internal controls
- Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets; provide variance analysis
- Support capital projects, construction accounting, and fixed assets
- Partner with operations and leadership to provide financial insight and decision support
- Assist with cash management, intercompany activity, and liquidity planning
- Coordinate audit and tax support with external CPAs
- Build financial models and analysis for ROI and strategic initiatives
- Drive process improvements and system enhancements
Ideal Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or CMA preferred)
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience (public + industry preferred)
- Experience in service, manufacturing, or operationally intensive environments
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
- Proven people leadership and cross-functional partnership skills
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP/accounting systems
- Detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
