This job is a dynamic and challenging opportunity for a seasoned Controller with a background in the construction industry. The successful candidate will play a vital role in our accounting team, overseeing financial operations and ensuring that our business remains financially healthy and in compliance with all relevant regulations.
Responsibilities:
Financial Governance & Reporting
- Full-Cycle Accounting: Lead the monthly and annual closing processes, including the preparation of journal entries and comprehensive general ledger maintenance and reconciliation.
- Financial Statement Preparation: Produce accurate monthly and annual Financial Statements, ensuring complete transparency into the company’s fiscal health.
- Audit & Tax Compliance: Direct the preparation of workpapers for annual audited Financial Statements and coordinate with external partners for Tax Return filings.
- Regulatory Filings: Ensure total compliance with all monthly, quarterly, and annual government filing and reporting requirements.
Operational Analysis & Fiscal Control
- Construction Financial Management: Prepare and analyze monthly detailed Work in Progress (WIP) reports and conduct rigorous job costing analysis throughout the month to protect project margins.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the preparation, review, and analysis of annual budgets and develop sophisticated revenue and expense forecasts to guide executive decision-making.
- Internal Controls: Maintain a strong technical accounting environment (GAAP), demonstrating practical applications to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
- Process Innovation: Act as a driver of change by identifying and implementing process improvements that increase operational efficiency within the accounting function.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Team Supervision: Provide direct leadership and mentorship to the Accounting Staff, fostering a culture of professional development and accountability.
- Business Partnership: Serve as a collaborative financial advisor to cross-functional business units, translating complex financial data into actionable operational insights.
- Strategic Problem Solving: Apply innovative and creative problem-solving skills to address financial challenges and support the company’s growth targets.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Controller position should have the following qualifications:
1. A valid CPA license is preferred.
2. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
3. Construction industry experience. Experience managing complex job costing and WIP reporting.
4. Proficiency in Sage 300/Timberline.
5. Solid understanding of GAAP, MS Office and pivot tables.
6. Proven experience with job costing and pivot tables.
