Controller

HHM Talent is assisting a client search for a Controller for their company located in Chattanooga, TN.

About the Role

We are seeking a Controller who can bring technical strength, leadership, and structure to our accounting function. This Controller position will be focused on oversight, consistency, and elevating the accounting team.

You will assess the current accounting responsibilities, identify areas for improvement, and help build a stronger operational foundation as the company continues to grow. You will oversee two team members initially, with responsibility for further team development and expansion.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all core accounting operations

• Perform normal revenue recognition and loan office reserve activities

• Manage multiple entities with limited intercompany transactions

• Support month-end close (no consolidations)

• Collaborate with tax advisors to support year-end and tax-efficient strategies

• Evaluate current processes, workflows, and team structure

• Provide guidance, training, and leadership to the accounting staff

• Assist with accounting work related to straightforward acquisitions

• Maintain accuracy, compliance, and financial integrity across the organization

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

• Experience with SAGE accounting software

• Banking industry experience is highly preferred

• Demonstrated leadership ability with experience managing or developing staff

• Strong technical accounting skills and attention to detail

• Ability to assess processes, improve systems, and elevate team performance

Reporting Structure

This role reports directly to the COO.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary: $120,000 - $150,000 (depending on experience)

• 401(k) with 6% company match
