Kforce has a client in Baltimore, MD that is seeking a Controller. Duties:
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
  • Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds
  • Prepare financial reports and analyses for senior leadership and the Board of Directors
  • Manage grant accounting, including tracking revenues, expenses, and compliance with donor and grant requirements
  • Support grant budgeting, reporting, and audits
  • Ensure proper allocation of costs across programs and funding sources
  • Assist with the annual budget process and multi-year financial forecasts
  • Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis and recommendations
  • Support program leaders with financial planning and cost management
  • Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies
  • Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations, including tax filings (e.g., Form 990)
  • Oversee financial systems and accounting software
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and reporting efficiency
  • Support implementation of new systems or enhancements as needed
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff (if applicable)
  • Collaborate with development, program, and operations teams to support organizational goals
  • Act as a trusted financial resource across the organization

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • CPA or CMA preferred
  • 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, including nonprofit or fund accounting
  • Experience with grants, restricted funds, and GAAP required
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards and financial reporting
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and Excel
  • Excellent analytical, detail-oriented, and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
