Controller – Atlanta, GA

We are seeking an experienced Controller on behalf of our client in Atlanta. The Controller will play a critical role in overseeing the accounting department and ensuring accurate financial management. This position works closely with the CFO and financial services team to provide leadership and strategic guidance across all accounting functions.

The Controller will supervise the accounting manager and a team of two, while also engaging in hands-on responsibilities in areas such as Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Accounting, Financial Reporting, Treasury, Payroll, and Financial Systems Support. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned professional with nonprofit accounting experience, particularly in gifts and grants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all accounting operations, including General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, Billing and Accounts Receivable, Cash Management, Payroll, and third-party financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with the CFO to prepare monthly and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
  • Serve as liaison with banks and financial institutions regarding debt financing and cash investments.
  • Coordinate annual audits and regulatory filings with external accountants.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end close processes for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Facilitate annual budgeting in partnership with organizational leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with reporting requirements for regulatory agencies and financial institutions.
  • Provide financial analysis to support operational and strategic decisions.
  • Manage fringe benefits payment, reporting, and reconciliation in collaboration with HR.
  • Support IT and third-party vendors for financial system updates and enhancements.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the CFO.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA license or Master’s degree required.
  • Minimum of seven years’ experience managing accounting departments, ideally in a multi-entity environment
  • Strong background in multi-entity environments, healthcare, and/or nonprofit industries
  • Experience with audits, debt reporting, and HUD compliance ideal.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and solid PC skills.
  • Exceptional financial analysis and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff.

Additional Details

  • This position will initially be on-site full-time, with potential for a hybrid schedule in the future.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Business Central 365 and applications such as Lifecalc Pro, Blackbaud/Razor’s Edge, OneSite, and Paycom is a plus.
