Controller & Office Manager

 Job Summary

Full-time position. Responsible for administrative operations including accounting, payroll (including payroll tax returns and 401(k) compliance), financial reporting, and human resources.

Founded in 1880, Texas Press Association is one of the oldest and largest newspaper trade associations in the country with more than 350 members.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all accounting operations including accounts receivables and payables, general ledger, bank reconciliations and payroll
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable tax and regulatory requirements
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements
  • Coordinate with external auditors
  • Oversee human resources and onboarding of employee benefits
  • Maintain employee records
  • Oversee 401(k) compliance and health insurance administration
  • Maintain office supply inventory

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA certification
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Self-starter who thrives in a small office environment
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Payroll administration experience
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks accounting software
  • Experience in Microsoft Office productivity tools
