Our client, a dynamic and growing architecture firm, is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the firm’s financial operations and project accounting. This role is critical to ensuring accurate job costing, WIP reporting, and financial insight across a diverse portfolio of projects including office, hospitality, landmark, and other specialized architectural work. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and highly proficient in Deltek (Vision, Vantagepoint, or similar).

Job Details
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and month-end close
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations
Manage annual audit and coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors
Project Accounting
Lead job costing and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting across all projects
Monitor project financial performance, including budgets, fees, labor utilization, and profitability
Partner with project managers to review financials, identify variances, and provide actionable insights
Maintain accurate revenue recognition in accordance with percentage-of-completion or other applicable methods
Systems & Tools
Serve as the internal expert on Deltek (Vision/Vantagepoint), ensuring accurate setup, reporting, and ongoing optimization
Improve accounting processes and reporting efficiencies through system enhancements and best practices
Leadership & Collaboration
Manage and mentor accounting staff (if applicable)
Collaborate closely with firm leadership to support strategic planning, forecasting, and cash flow management
Provide clear financial reporting to principals and senior leadership to support decision-making
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within an architecture, engineering, or professional services firm
Strong experience with job costing and WIP reporting
Proficiency in Deltek (Vision, Vantagepoint, or similar)
Solid understanding of project-based accounting and revenue recognition
Preferred
CPA or CMA designation
Prior experience in an architecture or design-focused environment
Strong Excel skills and comfort working with complex financial data
