Role: Compensation & Benefits Manager (Oil & Gas / Energy Services)
Pay: $150,000 - $170,000
Benefits: This role is eligible for medical, dental, vision, 401K and PTO.
Position Summary: A financially strong, well-established Oil & Gas / energy services organization is seeking a Compensation & Benefits Manager to lead end-to-end Total Rewards programs across the U.S. This role owns the strategic design and operational delivery of compensation and benefits programs to ensure market competitiveness, regulatory compliance, an improved employee experience, and efficient administration. The position will also oversee vendor relationships, manage budgets/forecasting, develop KPIs, and provide strategic guidance while partnering closely with senior leaders. Executive compensation and equity program experience is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Benefits Leadership:
- Lead benefits strategy across health & welfare, retirement, and wellness programs, ensuring competitiveness and cost-effectiveness.
- Manage relationships with brokers, consultants, and third-party administrators to optimize plan design, service delivery, and overall value.
- Own benefits communications (materials, booklets, meetings, and multi-channel employee communications) for new plans and changes.
- Conduct market analysis and lead RFP processes to improve employee experience and drive cost optimization.
Compensation & Executive Pay:
- Lead the development and execution of compensation programs including base pay structures, incentive plans (STI/QIP), job architecture, and market benchmarking.
- Oversee the annual compensation cycle including merit, promotions, and market adjustments.
- Evaluate and enhance executive and broad-based compensation programs, including equity administration and related offerings (e.g., equity/ownership programs).
- Drive compensation analytics using data insights to inform pay decisions and ensure market alignment and competitiveness.
Budget, Compliance, and Enterprise Partnership
- Develop and manage Total Rewards budgets; update forecasts and ensure accurate accruals for compensation and benefit spend.
- Lead communication and change management efforts to strengthen employee understanding of total rewards programs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including ERISA, ACA, SEC requirements, FLSA, pay transparency, and other statutory requirements.
- Lead compensation and benefits due diligence and integration activities to support M&A and acquisition integration efforts.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to HR and business leaders on Total Rewards best practices, trends, and innovation opportunities.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement:
- Recruit, retain, and develop a high-performing team to execute Total Rewards initiatives effectively.
- Build strong cross-functional partnerships with Finance, HR, and Legal to align Total Rewards strategy with business goals.
- Use performance and budget data to identify issues early, develop recovery plans, and drive process improvements.
- Implement preventative/corrective actions to resolve conflicts and prevent escalation while improving teamwork, efficiency, and quality.
Required Qualifications
Industry Requirement:
- Required: Prior experience in Oil & Gas / energy services (or closely related O&G operating environment).
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
Experience
- 7+ years of progressive experience across compensation and benefits, including at least 3 years of supervisory/people leadership experience.
- Executive compensation and equity administration experience is required, including exposure to executive/broad-based programs and governance-related practices.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
- HRIS experience; Oracle Cloud preferred.
- Strong understanding of benefits and compensation compliance frameworks, including ERISA and related requirements.
- Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing total rewards strategies, managing broker/consultant relationships, and running RFPs.
- Strong executive presence; ability to communicate effectively across all levels, including senior and executive leadership.
- Highly analytical with the ability to manage complex projects with minimal supervision, meet deadlines under pressure, and manage competing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certifications such as Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) and/or Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) preferred.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
- Primarily office-based work with extended periods of sitting and computer use; occasional lifting up to 10 pounds may be required.
