Responsibilities: 

Positioning the portfolio for sustained long-term growth and profitability by:

  • Ownership of portfolio health by:
    • Partnering with leadership to develop goals and objectives.
    • Evaluating results for the portfolio and using individual or collaborative judgment to ensure that profit and growth goals are achieved.
    • Analyzing, selecting and profitably pricing coverage for new business and determining terms and conditions for assigned agents within the portfolio.
    • Managing portfolio team’s underwriting results by tracking key metrics to achieve individual, territory and niche goals.
    • Identifying obstacles for achieving portfolio goals, determining root cause, and developing pro-active initiatives to overcome them.
    • Monitoring competitive marketplace and industry to identify opportunities and threats requiring strategic adjustments.
    • Coordinating with distribution associates on managing the relationships within the portfolio to maximize business opportunities, disseminating corporate initiatives/strategies, resolve issues, and oversee change management.
    • Communicating the overall health, stability, and opportunities.
    • Provide technical underwriting expertise to other underwriters within assigned portfolio.
  • Managing relationships with key distribution partners to drive profitable portfolio growth
  • Assessing the needs of the partners to formulate mutually beneficial roadmaps.
  • Developing continuous pipeline of new opportunities.
  • Analyzing, selecting and profitably pricing coverage for new business and determining terms and conditions for assigned agents within the portfolio.
  • Cultivate a High Performing Culture
  • Modeling the standard for service and responsiveness for the portfolio team.
  • Must be able to clearly and concisely communicate strategy and goals, internally and externally.
  • Mentoring support staff and level lower level underwriters throughout their career development.
  • Identifying talent development and training needs, facilitating training for the niche, to continually develop underwriting acumen and critical thinking skills.
  • Conduct peer audits and approve underwriting decisions (LOAs) for lower authority levels.
  • Coordinate the training of new hires and internal promotions by providing continuous mentoring and feedback to foster successful employee development.
  • Reviewing, mentoring, and approving referrals for lower authority level associates.
  • Leads organizational change as the SME for initiatives or projects.
  • Provide backup support for leadership in their absence or during times of increased workload.
  • Perform other related work as assigned.
