Position Overview
Wallace Electric Company is currently seeking a Commercial & Industrial Electrical Superintendent for our Data Centers clients. The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all field electrical operations on commercial and industrial construction projects. This role ensures work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project specifications, codes, and client expectations. The superintendent leads crews, coordinates subcontractors, manages materials, and supports communication between project management and field operations. To be successful in this role, the individual will be laser-focused on the project at hand, while continuing to be decisive, strategic, structured, and dedicated to producing high-quality results for the organization and the client. The Superintendent will rise to the occasion when meeting stringent deadlines, understanding the gravity of what it means to follow-up and follow-through. The individual will have exceptional communication skills and will exemplify strong leadership, serving as a mentor to their team while leading by example. The individual will not second-guess or shy away from jumping into the mighty trenches with their crew when it is crunch time or deemed necessary. The Superintendentmust have at least five years of experience, managing all phases of a Data Center project(s).
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Workforce Management
- Lead, supervise, and mentor electricians, apprentices, and subcontractors.
- Assign daily tasks, manage labor allocation, and track productivity.
- Conduct daily huddles, weekly planning meetings, and toolbox talks.
- Enforce company policies, safety rules, and jobsite standards.
Project Execution & Planning
- Interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and scope to plan field activities.
- Create look-ahead schedules and coordinate manpower needs.
- Ensure work is installed to NEC, local codes, engineering documents, and quality standards.
- Identify constructability issues and provide solutions to project management.
Safety Compliance
- Promote a zero‑incident safety culture on all job sites.
- Conduct safety audits, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and enforce PPE usage.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, local regulations, and company policies.
- Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions when required.
Coordination & Communication
- Act as the primary field liaison with project managers, general contractors, inspectors, and other trades.
- Coordinate scheduling for inspections, utility companies, and equipment vendors.
- Provide daily progress updates and assist with weekly reports.
Material, Equipment & Cost Control
- Forecast and request materials, tools, and equipment to maintain workflow.
- Verify material deliveries and manage jobsite inventory.
- Monitor labor hours against budget and report variances.
- Prevent rework through quality checks and proper documentation.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain daily logs, timecards, and field paperwork.
- Record as‑built conditions and communicate design deviations. Support commissioning, startup, and turnover documentation.
Required Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical school or electrical trade program preferred.
- Valid state Journeyman or Master Electrician license preferred.
- OSHA 30 certification strongly preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Experience Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in commercial and industrial electrical construction.
- 5+ years of supervisory or superintendent experience managing crews, subcontractors, and multi-phase electrical installations, with at least 5 years of experience specializing in Data Center projects.
- Proven experience leading electrical work on large-scale commercial, industrial, manufacturing, or infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience with medium‑voltage and low‑voltage installations, switchgear, transformers, panels, conduit systems, and grounding/bonding.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, OSHA standards, and local building codes.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, schematics, and project specifications.
- Experienced in electrical system installation, quality inspections, testing, and commissioning.
- Strong working knowledge of conduit routing, cable tray systems, terminations, equipment installation, and power distribution.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues and oversee corrective actions.
Leadership & Management Competencies
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and supervise electricians, apprentices, and subcontractors.
- Strong communication skills for interaction with project managers, engineers, inspectors, and clients.
- Ability to plan daily/weekly schedules, allocate manpower, and monitor productivity.
- Skilled in conflict resolution, decision-making, and maintaining worksite discipline.
- Ability to enforce safety policies and create a strong safety culture.
Project & Administrative Skills
- Experience coordinating with other trades and managing sequencing of electrical work.
- Proficient in Procore, PlanGrid, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office or similar project management tools.
- Ability to prepare daily reports, track progress, manage RFIs, and support change order documentation.
- Strong understanding of material procurement, equipment coordination, and inventory control.
- Ability to maintain project timelines and meet critical milestones under pressure.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to work on active construction sites, including climbing ladders, walking uneven surfaces, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work extended hours, nights, or weekends as project schedules require.
- Ability to travel to job sites as needed.
