Clinical Assistant Professor/Research – Tenure Track

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Florida College of Medicine invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), tenure-track Clinical Assistant Professor in the Adult Division. This position is a key component of our strategic research mission in neuroscience and psychiatry, with a focus on advancing translational research in brain organoid models to better understand psychiatric disorders and develop innovative therapeutic approaches.

The successful candidate will integrate research, education, and clinical service. Responsibilities include fostering collaboration between clinical and research teams, mentoring trainees, and contributing to patient care through research-driven insights. This role may also include providing clinical services, to include outpatient care, and inpatient call duties as part of the Adult Division’s clinical service.

Key Responsibilities:

Research Responsibilities

• Conduct and lead translational research in brain organoid models to advance neuroscience and psychiatry.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate research findings into clinical practice.
• Mentor and educate residents, fellows, and graduate students.
• Publish scholarly work and pursue extramural funding to support research programs.
• Participate in departmental service and academic activities.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric care for adult patients in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Participate in the Adult Division’s inpatient call rotation.
• Conduct psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and treatment planning.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient care.
• Integrate research findings into clinical practice where applicable.
• Supervise and mentor psychiatry residents, medical students, and other healthcare trainees in clinical settings.

• MD or DO with board eligibility/certification in Psychiatry.
• Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Florida.
• Demonstrated experience in translational research and interest in brain organoid models.
• Prior academic experience in psychiatry and neuroscience research.
• Evidence of successful grant funding and publications in peer-reviewed journals.

• PhD in a relevant scientific field
• Record of successful grant funding or clear potential to secure extramural funding.
• Experience mentoring trainees and collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.

$250,000 - Commensurate with experience

Faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Florida are engaged in groundbreaking projects covering a variety of interests through our Centers, labs, and collaborations with other departments. The Department of Psychiatry includes a large outpatient center with various specialty clinics within (including one associated with our Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment), a very active inpatient service, psychiatry collaborative program for primary care practitioners, school consultation program, and community consultation services.

The Department of Psychiatry spans services across adult, addiction, and child/adolescent specializations, including a freestanding psychiatric hospital, a large consult liaison service at the main UF Shands Hospital, the Florida Recovery Center operated by our Addiction Division, and multiple research centers including the Center for Addiction Research & Education and the Center for OCD and Related Disorders (COARD) and.  UF is also an active site for the NIH-landmark Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study.
