Position Overview
The Civil Staff Engineering Technician will support the Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) team under general supervision, performing advanced technical functions using electronic applications, engineering standards, and document control procedures. This role focuses on developing site drainage, grading, and utility plans using Autodesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley MicroStation.
This position supports the COMPANY Energy & Process Industries (E&PI) group, specifically delivering work for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. Candidates must bring advanced Civil 3D experience, including proposed grading surfaces and plan development.
Key Responsibilities
Function in a project engineering technician capacity under general direction
Develop and modify technical deliverables for engineering and design teams
Apply foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts
Utilize CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling tools to create, modify, and maintain drawings and technical documentation
Provide technical guidance and direction to other engineering professionals and technicians
Apply knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, codes, and BV policies
Review project requirements and determine correct deliverable format and content
Apply COMPANY Quality Program standards and support continuous improvement initiatives
Review design inputs for consistency and compliance with project codes and standards
Perform design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and recordkeeping
Review deliverables produced by others and help define work assignments and schedules
Coordinate with design group personnel to exchange project information
Support field activities as needed
Stay current with emerging technologies and processes
Maintain focus on internal client needs while understanding external client drivers
Required Skills & Experience
Advanced Autodesk Civil 3D experience, including proposed grading surfaces and plan development
Strong understanding of engineering standards, document control, and design practices
Ability to interpret design inputs and apply engineering judgment
Experience performing design calculations and material quantity estimates
Ability to handle complex technical assignments and provide guidance to others
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Preferred Qualifications
Diploma or Certificate required
Associate Degree in Drafting or Engineering Design–related technology preferred
Minimum Qualifications
Typically 5+ years of related work experience
