Overview:

Provide advanced engineering design, project management, and technical oversight for municipal and public works infrastructure projects. Serves as a senior technical resource responsible for delivering complex city and public agency projects, supporting client relationships, and guiding project teams. This role leverages direct experience working with municipalities to navigate public processes, standards, and stakeholder coordination while contributing to the successful delivery and growth of services within the company.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Direction

  • Receive broad guidance from senior leadership relating to overall objectives, critical issues, and new initiatives, and operate with a high level of autonomy on complex assignments.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and technical staff, reviewing work for quality, accuracy, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Support team development by sharing knowledge related to municipal engineering practices, permitting processes, and public agency coordination.

 

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Support business development efforts by maintaining strong relationships with city staff, public works departments, and municipal clients.
  • Assist with proposals, scopes of work, and project planning for public sector opportunities.
  • Coordinate with internal departments and multidisciplinary teams to support project delivery and client needs.
  • Contribute to operational improvements and technical best practices within municipal engineering services.

 

Do the Work

  • Manage and perform engineering design and project management for municipal infrastructure projects including roadway improvements, drainage systems, utilities, capital improvement programs (CIP), and other public works initiatives.
  • Prepare and review engineering plans, specifications, reports, cost estimates, and technical documentation.
  • Navigate municipal review and approval processes including permitting, public meetings, agency coordination, and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate with city officials, public agencies, utility providers, and stakeholders throughout project planning and design phases.
  • Review job cost reports, monitor project budgets and schedules, and support billing processes.
  • Conduct project meetings, presentations, and coordination efforts with municipal clients and stakeholders.
  • Identify and resolve technical challenges related to design standards, site constraints, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide quality assurance and technical review of plans and calculations prepared by project staff.
  • Support construction administration activities including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and conducting site visits as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Eight or more (8+) years of progressive civil engineering experience, including direct experience working with cities, municipalities, or public works agencies.
  • Strong knowledge of municipal standards, codes, permitting processes, and public infrastructure design.
  • Experience supporting or managing city-funded or publicly bid projects preferred.
  • Experience with roadway, stormwater, water, wastewater, or public infrastructure design.
  • Experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D and related engineering design software preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience coordinating with regulatory agencies and participating in public meetings preferred.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
  • Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Partially outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.

Salary and eligible variable compensation (if any) commensurate with experience. Range $130,000 - $150,000 and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
