Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on chiller equipment (centrifugal, screw, scroll, absorption, etc.).
  • Inspect and service compressors, evaporators, condensers, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and piping.
  • Check and adjust refrigerant levels, pressures, superheat/subcooling, and overall system performance.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control issues using gauges, multimeters, analyzers, and BAS interfaces.
  • Install new chiller units and related mechanical/HVAC components.
  • Set up chilled‑water loops, pumps, cooling towers, and control wiring.
  • Conduct startup, testing, and commissioning per manufacturer specifications.
  • Identify and resolve faults in refrigeration circuits, electrical circuits, VFDs, sensors, and PLC/BAS systems.
  • Analyze performance issues and recommend efficiency improvements.
  • Maintain accurate service logs, maintenance records, work orders, and inspection reports.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and refrigerant handling regulations (EPA 608).
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures and safe‑handling protocols for high‑pressure and high‑voltage systems.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or technical school certificate in HVAC/R or related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience servicing commercial or industrial HVAC/chiller systems.
  • Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, chilled‑water systems, and HVAC controls.
  • Ability to read schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools such as gauges, meters, refrigerant analyzers, and control software.
