Why this job matters

Ko-Kwel Casino Resort | Medford is no longer a start-up property. It's becoming a full-scale resort with growing complexity, visibility, and expectations. While other regional properties may rely on scale or proximity alone, Ko-Kwel's strength has always been thoughtful operations, consistent execution, and leadership that shows up. The Chief Resort Operations Officer (CROO) exists to give Medford a senior executive for day-to-day operations, coordination, and performance.

The Chief Resort Operations Officer (CROO) exists to ensure the Medford resort operates with the same level of excellence, coordination, and professionalism that has defined Coos Bay for decades, and to raise the bar as Medford grows into its full potential. This role provides clear, on-site executive ownership of daily operations, ensuring decisions are made quickly, teams are aligned, and the resort delivers an experience that stands apart in the region.

By pairing local execution with enterprise partnership, the CROO helps Medford compete not by cutting corners, but by doing the fundamentals better. Every day.

What you bring to the table

  • Make sure the space stays safe, clean, and friendly for both guests and the rest of the team; speak up and report any safety concerns to the Safety Committee.
  • Provide steady, visible executive leadership across all Medford resort operations, serving as the primary point of alignment for Casino Operations, Food & Beverage, Hotel Operations, Golf Course Operations, Facilities, Security, and Cage.
  • Ensure Casino Operations run smoothly and consistently by supporting strong shift execution, clear communication between departments, and rapid resolution of operational issues that impact guest experience or regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee Food & Beverage operations with a focus on service consistency, staffing stability, food quality, and operational discipline across outlets, while partnering with corporate leaders on standards and expectations.
  • Partner closely with Hotel leadership to maintain room quality, front desk efficiency, housekeeping coordination, and a guest arrival and departure experience that reflects Ko-Kwel's standards.
  • Provide operational oversight of the Golf Course, ensuring daily operations, course conditions, staffing, and guest service align with the resort experience and seasonal demand.
  • Ensure Facilities operations support the resort effectively through proactive maintenance, rapid response to issues, and close coordination with operating departments to minimize downtime and disruption.
  • Work closely with Security leadership to maintain a safe, well-controlled environment for guests and team members, ensuring security practices support both regulatory requirements and a welcoming resort atmosphere.
  • Oversee Cage operations in partnership with Cage leadership, ensuring daily processes are executed accurately, securely, and in compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Serve as the senior on-site decision-maker for Medford, resolving cross-department issues quickly and ensuring operational priorities stay aligned throughout the resort.
  • Translate corporate policies, procedures, and expectations into practical, effective on-property execution, while providing feedback to enterprise leaders on what is working and what needs adjustment.
  • Monitor operational performance, staffing levels, and service outcomes across the resort, identifying risks early and addressing them before they impact guests, employees, or regulators.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and collaboration among Medford leaders, setting clear expectations and modeling calm, decisive leadership.
  • Jump in where needed to support the team and keep things running smoothly. (Other duties as assigned)

Physical stuff to know

We've included the typical physical parts of the job here. If you need an accommodation to do the work, just let us know-we're here to support you.

This role requires a strong on-property presence at the Medford resort and flexibility to meet operational needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Work is performed across a variety of environments, including casino floors, hospitality venues, facilities spaces, and outdoor areas such as the golf course. The casino environment may include exposure to secondhand smoke. Occasional travel to Coos Bay is expected to maintain alignment and relationships. The ability to remain calm, focused, and decisive in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment is essential. This role involves standing for extended periods, with occasional walking, sitting, and use of hands to handle tools, controls, and paperwork. The position may require occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds.

This is a quick summary of the main duties and requirements-it might not cover everything you could be asked to do.

Must-haves, nice-to-haves, and maybe some bonus points

  • Friendly and approachable attitude that helps guests (and the team) feel welcome and cared for every day.
  • 10 years of General Manager, Chief Operations Officer (or similar) experience in casino, resort, hospitality, or similarly complex operations, with demonstrated success overseeing multi-department environments.
  • Proven ability to lead day-to-day operations while partnering effectively with corporate executives and support teams.
  • Strong operational judgment, sound decision-making skills, and the ability to balance urgency with consistency.
  • Experience working in regulated environments, with a solid understanding of compliance and risk management expectations.
  • Financial acumen sufficient to partner on budgets, forecasts, and cost controls without owning enterprise financial strategy.
  • A leadership style that is steady, visible, and collaborative, with the credibility to lead seasoned managers and executives.
  • Comfortable operating as a peer with C-suite leaders while maintaining clear site-specific boundaries.
  • Valid Oregon Driver's License required.
  • Must pass and remain in compliance with background check and drug free workplace policies.
  • Comfortable communicating clearly and positively with both guests and teammates.

Ko-Kwel Casino Resort is owned by the Coquille Indian Tribe. Team members are eligible for a comprehensive health care benefit, generous time off policy, 401-K retirement with 4% company match and other benefits.
