Chief Photographer

WJLA is actively seeking a seasoned Chief Photographer to inspire and lead our dedicated team of Photographers and Multimedia Journalists (MMJs). The ideal candidate will have over 5 years' experience in the field, a deep understanding of storytelling through video and sound, and a proven ability to manage and schedule crews. We are looking for a leader who is committed to the National Press Photographers Association's (NPPA) standards and practices and who can foster this focus within the team.

Responsibilities include:

• 
  
• Inspiring, leading, and providing constructive critique on the shooting and editing skills of photographers and MMJs.
• 
  
• Ensuring the team is proficient in ENG truck and Live U operations.
• 
  
• Overseeing the maintenance and repair of the news department's vehicle fleet.
• 
  
• Collaborating with the Operations Manager in the recruitment and training of new photographers and editors.
• 
  
• Supervising and ensuring the quality of work produced by photographers and editors.
• 
  
• Managing and scheduling photographer/editor crews efficiently.
• 
  
• Understanding and adhering to NABET union contracts.
• 
  

Qualifications:

• 
  
• A minimum of five years' experience in television news photography and editing.
• 
  
• Comprehensive technical knowledge of SAT vehicles, Live U, and AVID editing.
• 
  
• Familiarity with the DC area and its unique storytelling opportunities.
• 
  
• Professionalism, strong organizational skills, and high motivation.
• 
  
• Solid understanding of photojournalism principles and a commitment to NPPA standards.
• 
  
• Proficiency in collaborating with reporters and Multimedia Journalists, as well as working independently to gather news and meet deadlines.
