Eli Lilly and Company seeks a Chemist (R2-R4) to perform compound synthesis, purification, and characterization under the direction of senior scientific staff. Design new molecules to address hypotheses and issues in portfolio projects. Design and implement multi-step synthetic routes towards targeted compounds. Independently set up and complete a variety of organic chemistry reactions, including those with air sensitive and hygroscopic reagents. Perform routine purification of synthetic intermediates and final products and characterize reactions products. Rigorously document laboratory experimentation and employ safe laboratory practices. Actively contribute to a multi-disciplinary drug discovery research team in a fast-paced lab environment. Integrate emerging analytical chemistry, computational design technologies, automation chemistry, and biophysical methods into drug discovery. #LI-DNI

Position requires a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related STEM field and 1 year of experience in synthetic or medicinal chemistry. Experience must include a minimum of: 1 year of experience performing compound synthesis, purification, and characterization; 1 year of experience designing new molecules to address hypotheses and issues; 1 year of experience designing and implementing multi-step synthetic routes towards targeted compounds; 1 year of experience completing organic chemistry reactions; 1 year of experience solving synthetic challenges and conducting independent research; 1 year of experience performing purification of synthetic intermediates and final products; 1 year of experience characterizing reactions products; 1 year of experience with analytical techniques including TLC, HPLC, flash chromatography, NMR, and mass spectrometry; and 1 year of experience in written and oral communication of chemistry research. #LI-DNI

Job location: San Diego, CA.

Rate of Pay: $83,221.00 - $187,000.00 per year.
