The Controller / CFO is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the company, providing strategic financial leadership, and ensuring strong controls, compliance, and reporting. This individual will partner closely with the CEO/President and leadership team to support profitable growth, optimize cash flow, and manage financial risk in a leasing-focused business model.

This role blends hands-on accounting leadership with higher-level financial strategy typical of a small, entrepreneurial organization.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Strategy

  • Serve as the senior financial leader for the company, advising ownership and executive leadership on financial performance, strategy, and risk
  • Develop financial strategies to support growth, portfolio performance, capital structure, and profitability
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results, forecasts, and KPIs to leadership
  • Support strategic initiatives such as new leasing programs, pricing models, and market expansion

Accounting & Financial Operations

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and month-end close
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP (or other applicable standards)
  • Manage lease accounting, revenue recognition, depreciation, residual values, and asset tracking
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts
  • Monitor performance versus budget and provide variance analysis
  • Develop cash flow forecasts and working capital plans
  • Analyze portfolio performance, delinquency trends, and lease yields

Treasury, Cash & Capital Management

  • Manage cash flow, liquidity, and banking relationships
  • Oversee debt facilities, lines of credit, and lender reporting
  • Support funding strategies, including credit facilities, investor reporting, or financing partners
  • Optimize capital allocation and return on assets

Compliance, Risk & Governance

  • Ensure compliance with tax, regulatory, and reporting requirements
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and legal counsel
  • Oversee insurance coverage and risk management programs
  • Support audits, reviews, and lender examinations

Systems, Process & Team Management

  • Evaluate and improve financial systems, lease management software, and reporting tools
  • Streamline processes to improve efficiency and scalability
  • Build, mentor, and manage a small accounting/finance team or outsourced partners
  • Establish best practices suitable for a growing leasing organization

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, ideally within leasing, asset-based finance, or a similar industry
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience managing cash flow, budgeting, and financial analysis
  • Hands-on leadership style with the ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels

Preferred

  • CPA, CMA, or MBA
  • Experience in equipment leasing, vehicle leasing, real estate leasing, or specialty finance
  • Prior experience in a small or mid-sized company with broad financial responsibility
  • Exposure to lender relations, credit facilities, or investor reporting
